Bon Iver is the name of the music project of Justin Vernon and his accompanying band. The band is known for subtle yet soulful vocal harmonies along with their somber folk music. The only album by the band to date (For Emma, Forever Ago) was recorded almost entirely alone by Vernon during his three month seclusion in a Cabin in northern Wisconsin.

Hey TL, not bad at all! The first surprise was that they only have one album. i thought he had at least three or so because the names floated around for a while. I guess the one is already giving him a buzz which is cool! :grinthumb

I love City and Colour so the higher pitched vocals on the first one worked cool for me because I like the vibe. City and Colour tone is of a higher pitch in general and he (Dallas Green) has moments vocally where it sounded very much like that song. I didn't care for the second song as it dragged for me but I ended up liking the last song the most. Really cool! :grinthumb What sticks out the most for me is he didn't sound the same from song to song. Thanks for letting me here this! :)

Got this c.d. in my 22 album haul:

This one is likely to be an acquired taste even for Folkies because Bon's vocal style is very quirky and warbly. I'll be the first to admit it's not my favorite vocal but the album is a cool laid back sparse acoustic journey with some nice horn additions and choruses. My favorite track is the "Skinny Love" song listed in the OP but this is another nice one as well:

Posted this in the CD purchases thread, but I felt it'd be more appropriate here. I've started to listen to For Emma, Forever Ago, starting with Flume. So far, it's got a very very relaxed folk feel to it, which is what I enjoy quite a bit about these kinds of artists. Last.fm labels it as indie folk, which is in my top 3 favorite genres, so I will have no problem enjoying this album over and over and over and over again.

Bon Iver is a band founded in 2007 by American indie folk singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The band further consists of Michael Noyce, Sean Carey, and Matthew McCaughan. Justin Vernon agreed to let Kanye West use samples from his song "Woods" from his 2009 EP Blood Bank for West's 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and has contributed vocals to several songs in collaboration with West.

The new s/t album has some filler (Michicant, Lisbon OH and Hinnom TX aren't particularly memorable) but the great songs outnumber the weak. Beth/Rest sounds like the best Bruce Hornsby song he never recorded. Wash. and Holocene are both especially beautiful compositions, and the album opener Perth is also amazing.
