My mother had a few albums lying around when I was younger. Elton John, ELO, the Bee Gees. That got me headed in the right direction. I know my father was into classic rock, but he didn't really influence me because I didn't see him very much while growing up.

I had some Pink Floyd on one time long ago and she said "What the hell is this spacy shit? It's scaring the dogs. Turn it off" :oyea:

:heheh: My Mum is as huge Floyd fan. She has very good taste in music I have to say. She's been a Rory Gallagher fan for 30 or so years and now I am a huge fan of his too.

My mum likes a little of everything.

Now my dad is 69 and loves his music from to country through to rock.
He has a massive music collection, he got me into rock when I was 13 (more like I was brainwashed as he played his music loud and often), not just the well known bands but the more obscure too like Wrabit, Toronto, Reckless, Le Roux etc.

He still regularly buys cd`s and videos, he useed to be in a band many years ago and their claim to fame was supporting Johnny Kidd And The Pirates.(WHO??)

1. Do you share any similarities when it comes to musical taste?
With my mom, not even close. She listens to country, rap, and a lot of stuff that's played on the radio. With my dad, we have a lot of similarities in music taste. He got me into a lot of the bands I listen to today like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc. And he's very open minded to the music I listen to, so I could introduce a band to him, and we can both jam out to it as if it's the greatest thing in the world.

2. What are some artists you have introduced your parents to, or that they have introduced to you (but both ended up actually liking)?
I don't talk music with my mom, but I introduced Uriah Heep and Devin Townsend to my dad, and he loved both of them. That was more recently though, I can't entirely remember if i've given him any recommendations before that, that he still likes.

3. If your parents have passed on, what are some songs/artists that remind you of their time on earth?
My parents haven't passed on yet, but I think when they do, an artist that will remind me of my mom will probably be Eminem. I don't listen to him ALL that much, I do sometimes, but she listens to him constantly. It's very odd. As for my dad, I think any thrash metal band will remind me of him when he passes. But to narrow it down to one artist, i'll say Megadeth, because it was the first concert he took me to a few years ago.

My mother - is a fan of "The Beatles" and she began to shape my musical taste. She thinks, that rock music is interesting, but don't listen to hard rock and everything heavily. My late (unfortunately) father loved the Russian bard Vladimir Vysotsky. He wasn't keen to rock music, although he was open to something new and unusual. My sister can listen to all that easily falls on the ear, but the bad thing, is that she prefers to pop music (often very unquality).2_sm5.gif

My parents are both in their early 70's and they both grew up in the 1950's so they went to sock hops and stuff like that.
They both like 50's and 60's oldies, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary, Roy Orbison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and ..................... the Bee Gees :puke:

My Dad also likes stuff like Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, big band and swing stuff. But he'll listen to whatever's on the radio. Once I caught him listening to Guns n' Roses and he didn't even know what it was.

My Mom likes Steely Dan, K.D. Lang, Tony Bennett, Andre Rieu, and she loves Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. My Dad took her to see Jersey Boys in New York for her 70th Birthday and she loved it.

1. Do you share any similarities when it comes to musical taste?
Hell yeah, they introduced me to a lot of music. My parents were teenagers in the early-late 70's so they brought
a lot of that 70's and 80's rock into my playlist. All of my grunge and alternative though, they can't stand. Well my
mom can dig some alternative but for the most part too angsty for their old ears.
2. What are some artists you have introduced your parents to, or that they have introduced to you (but both ended up actually liking)?
My Dad showed me Deep Purple, Nazareth, Sabbath, Ac/Dc, The Angels, Boston, Van Halen and so much much
more. My Mom introduced Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, RHCP, April Wine, Stevie Nicks, The Offspring, Pearl Jam,
Rob Zombie, Metallica, Doors and again, WAY too many to even recall. Whatever I show my Dad he usually
dislikes, but I showed Mom SOAD, Slayer, Rammstein, Eminem, and a few more she really got into. My Mom's
more open minded to music it seems.
3. If your parents have passed on, what are some songs/artists that remind you of their time on earth?
All of the shit listed above.
