Now I know I'm not a Donovan expert or anything but I honestly am surprised that nobody has made a thread about this famous folk artist.

Donovan Philips Leitch is a Scottish singer, songwriter and guitarist. His music style is is gentle and combines a blend of such genre's such as folk, rock, jazz and psychadelia.

Re: Donovan

Big fan of his myself, at the moment I only have a compilation of his greatest hits.

I might have to remedy that shortly...

Re: Donovan

We really didn't have a Donovan thread already? Wow...I'm shocked by that too.

My favorite Donovan song is and always has been "Atlantis". Such a great song...

Re: Donovan

I like Donovan's stuff. Especially Season of the Witch, Atlantis, and Hurdy Gurdy Man. Actually I like it all.

Hurdy Gurdy Man especially has a cloudy mythology around it.

The belief (some claim) was that Jimmy Page played on the tune along with John Paul Jones and John Bonham.

John Paul Jones apparently claimed that it was not Page, but another guitarist (Alan Parker)that played the guitar on the track and the drummer was Clem Cattini.

Donovan once said he was hoping Hendrix could be involved as well.

I don't claim to know the truth, as I have read bits and pieces around the web and in books that back both sides of the argument.

If anyone has a source to the definitive answer, I'd love to read it!

Re: Donovan

Not a fan of Donovan, but what I can say is I found loads of his LPs in record shops. Each one has at least 10. :wtf:

Re: Donovan

I must admit I never got round to buying any Donovan albums, but I do think he is pretty cool. Heres my favorite by him in chill psychedelic perfection !:grinthumb

Re: Donovan

Ooohhoo... I was the one who got you into Donovan.

Well done, me! Some of my loves....

"Bleak City Woman"
(Serious bedroom music.)

"Get Thy Bearings"
(Superchill.)

"Barabajagal"
(Nonsense music for nonsensical people like me.)

"I Love My Shirt"
(With the Smothers Brothers! Donovan's a little cutie!)

"Sunshine Superman"
(This is so groovy - how come nobody posted this yet?!
Pics of Sue Lyon, Donovan's lady at the time this song was written.)

And here's a little something I just remembered. This is an autograph Donovan scribbled out for Marc Bolan (allegedly). The two were cool with each other (which should come as no surprise) back when.

"To weav(e) & strew and cast about ye as you sing."
