Facts

Release Date: 1976
Run Time: 34:03
Rhythm Guitar: Paul Stanley
Lead Guitar: Ace Frehley
Bass Guitar: Gene Simmons
Drums: Peter Criss
Shared Vocals except for Frehley

Tracks

1. Detriot Rock City

I would say the best and loudest song on the album. I think it is a great way to start off the album. Stanley does a decent job on vocals but the real beauty is how the band comes together.

2. King of the Night Time World

The chorus is very catchy and the music isn't bad to rock out to. It is a decent track but nothing special.

3. God of Thunder

This had to be one of the most underrated rock songs of all time. Gene's vocals are kind of scary while the guitars slowly grind away. The guitar solo leaves a haunting feel over the entire song. I love the background noise and effects in this song.

4. Great Expectations

The lyrics are well straight forward to having a great time with the opposite sex. Simmons tries so hard to be a great singer here but he really isn't. They use an orchestra on this song however it really doesn't help it that much.

5. Flaming Youth

The guitar solo and the ending save this song from being completely boring.

6. Sweet Pain

One of the stronger tracks on the album. It has a nice guitar riff and drumming performance. Vocals are on par to what you would expect from a Kiss album.

7. Shout it Out Loud

Stanley and Simmons share the vocals in this song. One of their most known songs and it isn't bad. Can seem repetitive but it makes you want to shout out loud with of course no pun intended.

8. Beth

What happened to Kiss? Actually, it is a beautiful song with a lot of meaning. I honestly think that Criss doesn't get enough vocal time.

9. Do you Love Me?

It is an ok way to end out an album. The song is pretty in your face when the chorus comes in but then dies down once Stanley starts to howl the versus.

10. Rock and Roll Party (Ghost Track)

This is a bonus track if you will that isn't listed on the song list. It is just a slow instrumental/effects song.

Final Thoughts

A few good songs does not make a good album. The members of kiss were decent on their instruments but not the best on vocals. The songwriting is decent though. I'll give it a 7/10 based on the fact there are some hidden gems in the album.

Going to be some KISS fans disagree with you on the 7/10 rating FireandWater...:D

I like this album, KISS reminds me of ACDC, you Know what you are getting when you play their music.

I have Destroyer rated in the top 5 albums KISS has ever done.

I would give it...7.5/10...:grinthumb

Re: Destroyer - Kiss

Considering that there are no grooves left on my original 70's lp, I'll chime in. Most Kiss fans consider this their greatest record. I am not one of them. However, it is a very strong album and a far cry from their first three studio releases. There are three Kiss classics on here, Detroit Rock City, God Of Thunder and Beth. Seven out of ten does not do this album justice considering the tunes and it's overwhelming popularity with Kiss fans. Paul Stanley is a strong vocalist and has proven that through the years. Gene serves his songs well but I will agree he is not the greatest crooner. Peter is a Rod Stewart style singer and is underrated. I prefer Hard Luck Woman to Beth. As LG put it, Kiss is a meat and potatoes band. You pretty much know what you are going to get but Destroyer surprised a lot of folks with it's ballads and strings. Certanly, one of their best.

Re: Destroyer - Kiss

I respect your opinion and this is why this board is so great. It gives everyone a chance to say something. I have a pretty advanced way to rating albums. I look at a ton of things. I gave those three songs a lot of credit. Outside of those songs however there just isn't that much good. They did experiment a lot this album and it worked out--a little. I stated above that Peter doesn't get enough vocal time. I feel as if he is the best vocalist in the band. I don't intend to offend anyone with a 7 out of 10. That's just how it goes sometimes, I guess. Thanks for chiming in though :)

No offense taken, just a difference in opinion. I was smack dab in the middle of Kissteria as a kid and everyone had this record and loved it. The album cover is too cool.

Re: Destroyer - Kiss

I'm not the biggest Kiss fan in the world. I like an album or song, here and there, but Destroyer is awesome!

God Of Thunder takes me right back to the summer of 8th going into 9th grade, King Of the Nighttime world and Shout It out Loud are both just great songs..

Great review, FnW.. My rating would be a 7/10 as well..OK, maybe 8/10..:heheh:
