Re: Rush: Rush (1974)

I think Snakes and Arrows was a huge improvement over Vapor Trials.

I got your back in that one. Except I wouldn't say "huge". But it was definitely better. I actually didn't think Vapor Trails or Snakes and Arrows was bad. But the latter was the better album in my opinion.

In my opinion, Caress of Steel was the weakest album they've produced. That's just me...I just thought it was a "stale" album.

Well it looks like our Rush opinions are on the same level. I agree. Caress of Steel was the weakest. Doesn't mean it was a bad album. It just wasn't on the level as the other ones.

Good song. Always liked that one.

Me too. The park is nothing like it used to be. I'm not too sure when Peart lived in St. Catharines, but there used to be an amusement park there. Nothing big, just a few rides. There is still a carousel there and you can still ride it for a nickel.

I think the last two cuts, Before and After & Working Man, were previews of things to come. A solid debut with some good guitar work from Alex and Geddy. Who knew from this they would become the top shelf live band they are today?

Yes Before and After does sound like RUSH to come ...always thought that.

Reading through the other posts... Caress has a certain charm with me to this day. S & L?? I thought it was a great disc. Gonna have to give it a spin again soon.

Re: Rush: Rush (1974)

I remember when I got the Archives album. It was Rush's first three records in one set. I was intrigued by Caress Of Steel. There's some good stuff on there. Some of us in my neighborhood were playing D&D so songs like The Necromancer and The Fountain Of Lamneth were cool and related to books we had to read at school as well. I'd say Presto or Rush are my least faces, although I like all of Rush's music.

Interesting review. I would put it as 6.5/10, and agree with you on your ratings of the songs. Even though I like the PeW to GUP era the best, I still give In the Mood and Working Man a listen more often than not.

it's my least fave of the 70's Rush but for what it was-debut album 1974-it is great. People were calling them Led Zeppelin clones. I dont see it at all.
