Those of you who have listened to a lot of rock music on the radio in your lifetime and watched a lot of music videos probably own the original albums, right?
Thought so.
Any of us here who fall into this category knows very well that there are "differences" between the version of a song you hear on the radio versus what you'll find on the original album.
I'm not just talking about the cuss words either. I'm also talking about missing intros, missing outros, missing guitar solos, missing "jam" parts in the middle and occasionally a missing verse or chorus. This happens with both studio and live albums.
What tends to happen is a song which is five minutes on an album will get trimmed to be 3:30 to 3:45 when you hear it on the radio, usually to save precious broadcasting time (for commercials or other songs). A song which is 4 minutes might become 3:15. A song running 6-minutes plus will become a 4:30 to 5 minute track.
Looking for some people to drop in with some of their most hated examples of a radio edit.
In case you need examples, here are a couple:
Meatloaf: I'd Do Anything For Love
-Album version is over 12 minutes.
-MTV edit runs around 7 minutes and the radio single runs about 5:30. Both versions are missing huge chunks of music in the middle of the song.
Compare these edits to the original album version, which again is a 12 minute song.
Ozzy Osbourne: No More Tears
-Album version is a little over 7 minutes long.
-Radio version runs closer to 4-5 and is missing portions of the intro, outro and middle. It later ended up on the Ozzy greatest hits record, to boot.
Care to compare?
What we're looking for here is replies naming the radio edits which get you the most riled up when you listen to them and which you hate to hear on the radio when you were hoping it'd be the longer album version this time.
While I'm mostly expecting replies concerning examples of songs edited for length, I'm also open to seeing songs mentioned which were mostly edited for cuss words or worse yet, songs which had a lousy remix made of it for radio.
Videos and explanations of your choices in detail aren't necessary but are welcomed!
