I figured instead of two separate threads, I would make one thread that involves two bands lead by the same frontman, Devin Townsend. Haven't listened to him long, but I have listened to him long enough to tell that both of these bands have got a lot of talent. According to last.fm, The Devin Townsend Band is the more positive side of Townsend's talent, whereas Strapping Young Lad is the darker side. So without further ado, Strapping Young Lad & The Devin Townsend Band:

Fantastic OP.:grinthumb

You beat me to the punch P&C. I've been planning on doing a thread on Devin for some time now.

Devin is known as the "mad scientist of metal." The man it twisted, tormented, angry, and has a wierd sense of humour. Eccentric, eclectic, and a genius of sorts. His production work is one of the most complex and technically proficent I've heard.

Strapping Young Lad's album City is of the most angry and intense metal albums I've heard. Warning: Don't listen to this album before you go out on the town on Friday night.

His solo material is more to my listening preference. More of a ambient progressive metal. Terria is superb and my fav album. I haven't heard his last two albums. If there is fans of technical production, Terria is a must listen album.

Definitely agree with you Joe :grinthumb

The Devin Townsend Project is great as well. Specifically the Addicted album.

Which, I believe is a remake of this:

Both versions are amazing, but I prefer the Ziltoid version.

Really no comparison P&C. The version from Ziltoid melts the other. I haven't heard Addicted yet. I'll check out the tube and see what's available.

Here's a couple tracks from Strapping Young Lad's album, City. Anguish, torment and HELL.

From the Ocean Machine album, which btw has really been growing on me. It's fantastic.:

It continues to blow my mind how perfect this music sounds and how great the production quality is. The drums, the guitar, and the vocals, everything is spot on. There is nothing too overbearing. In time, I will get every single album by each of Townsend's projects.

Eargasm.

This is both versions of Hyperdrive (from the Ziltoid release and the Addicted! release), it's really well done:
