Formed in 1972, in Memphis, Tennessee, the Amazing Rhythm Aces are one of the highest, critically acclaimed and almost under-appreciated country rock acts of the 1970s. They released seven albums from 1975's Stacked Deck to 1982's Full House: Aces High. They disbanded until 1994, and they have been released albums and compilations from 1994, up through 2009 featuring various lineups.

They're music combines elements of blues, rock n roll, bluegrass, jazz, and country. They're music to me, represents the perfect sound of the heartland of America. They are to the heartland, what Skynyrd is to the south, IMO.

Albums

1975 Stacked Deck
1976 Too Stuffed to Jump
1977 Toucan Do It Too

1981 Full House: Aces High
1982 4 You 4 Ever: Best of Amazing Rhythm Aces

Re: The "Official" Amazing Rhythm Aces Thread

eberg, I've heard of The Amazing Rhythm Aces over the years, but never heard their music. Which is kinda suprising since I'm a big fan of this type of music.

Growing up, and even hanging out with my older brother and an older crowd who was into this style of music, I never met any of their fans. This music is right up my alley. They sound pretty fun - goodtime music.

I'm going to hunt down their first three albums...

1975 Stacked Deck
1976 Too Stuffed to Jump
1977 Toucan Do It Too

and give them a listen and report back to this thread. I'll see if I can get them over the weekend - and if not, I'll order them from Amazon.com...

Cant wait to hear them. Thanks for the thread, man...good job.

:cheers2

At first I thought I didn't know who this group was, but I do remember "Third Rate Romance" :)

Awesome vocal harmonies, with a "jimmy buffet" style groove.

I am not familiar with much else, but they do have a really cool country-rock thing going on. I will explore them a bit more, since I do enjoy this type music.

Like everyone else I know their one hit song..."Third Rate Romance...Low Rent Rendevous" but never bought any of their albums.

I might have an MP3 compilation of theirs laying around somewhere...I'll have to look and see.

LG, their album Stacked Deck was produced really nicely, that's the one with "Third Rate Romance", so find the vinyl, or CD:heheh:

You guys both hit the nail on the head:D

@Groovy,
I have a feeling that they just weren't promoted very well, I can't think of a single reason that they weren't popular..
But definitely track down those first 3.. They seem to fit your tastes perfectly:tup:

@Magic

They can even throw down a nice bluesy groove:)

They sure do lay down some killer blues grooves. These are all from the "Out of the Blue" album:

Well, I got the first two albums, eberg. They're good albums - kind of old time country mixed with rock, bluegrass and other styles. It's ok - but thought I'd like it better - but, don't get me wrong, there are good songs found on both albums. I'll be putting some of these tunes in my mixes. :grinthumb
