I'm not into records but even I would love to browse there! It's got a huuuuggeee selection. I get excited enough just driving downstate 2 hours away just to browse at Newbury Comics. All I have in my area is Wal-Mart and their shitty selection has gotten even shittier!

I've been to many used record stores here in Ohio and I have to admit that that one pic is the biggest store I've ever seen. I used to hit all the stores on High St. in Columbus near Ohio State, and some in Cleveland and a few in Kent near Kent State. The funniest name of one was in Columbus..Thunderpussy Records.

Regarding the question about price:
the highest I've paid is 5 dollars.. It's based on condition, but if the cover is a little beat and the record is fine, it will still be cheaper.. both pretty much just charge 2, 3, 4 or 5$ based on condition, but they do have 180 grams or still sealed for a lot more, obviously.. When the same CD is 7 or 8 bucks used, I'll take buying it for 3, when some of them sound better, and they are more fun to listen to

Damn, US second hand record shops are very cheap comparing to UK ones - £3 each, collectors section - £5 up to £15. I'm quite jealous now. heheh:

The only vinyl I have seen in Adelaide costs excess of $40.
And to import from overseas on ebay or something would be the same or more!
CD's generally cost $20-30 and one may be lucky to get one for $15 (used CD's are generally about $15) but to get something for $8 would be just so amazing!!
Eberg, you better buy lots of music for my sake because you are getting a steal!!!

Also, those 7-8 dollar CD's are used.. New they are anywhere from 11 to 20$ Which I usually won't pay unless it's something I really want

I couldn't find a picture of the CD section at Attic, Sooty.. They have racks and bins and baskets and cases full of the most CD's I've ever seen.. They also have an entire warehouse full of stuff about a block over..

Apparently Walmart doesn't know their alphabet either.. I tried to find two CD's there, I found one, but damn.. They also carry an abundance of Garth Brooks CD's

There was an article about the one store for having 1,000,000 records a few years ago, the architecture is very deceiving too.. As for bad store names.. I was on vacation in Virginia beach, and there was a restaurant called "The Sandy Beaver" and on their sign, it read "We sell crabs"

I wish you could have the same cheap prices, Nol, but I'm sure glad it's not the other way around

I love being able to walk out of the store with 6 or 7 records for 25(give or take) dollars

Reminds me of my vinyl junkie years during and after High School. I used to hit the ol' used record stores and come out with a big ol' stack of records.

They don't focus on the obscurities, both stores pride themselves with being "listeners'" stores rather than collectors, but there are very few bands that they wouldn't be able to get their hands on for you.. They do have a decent amount of the late 60s psychedelic records you don't see every day

In here there are some obscures available for sale. Last Friday found Snafu first LP on an excellent condition. Could find more and more, but I was focused on CDs.

I'm glad that there are record stores still in business! I used to both spend many hours going through local record stores, especially when I was younger. Vinyl was much more available, affordable and extremely cool and also appealing, too, imo! I really enjoyed searching through several record stores in particular, and I did have quite a good amount of success with finding some great albums, too. Whether the albums were new or used I enjoyed both looking through as many as possible, probably too many , to try to find at that time rare albums...some of which weren't available on CD formats, and still aren't. I would also take more time and look through the cassette tape bins and found quite a few excellent, oop titles. One of the pleasant surprises on a cassette that I found was Alcatrazz - No Parole From Rock 'N' Roll that features a pretty young Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar.

Most of the records and cassettes that I did find and buy then I still have. In many ways I greatly believe that there are more special significance and memories associated with many of those than perhaps with buying some CD's of the same albums.

I would try to give as many of the local record stores as much time, attention and business as I possibly could, both with the terrific music I did find and also for the very cool, memorable experiences as well as excellent opportunities to search for a lot of the albums I was wanting and to both show my appreciation and continuing support for them, too. Sadly, I believe there are now only two of those stores that I frequented still open for business. :mad

Oh hell yes!! I'm gonna love this thread lol. I can almost smell those record stores from the pics. Tho CD's may have technical advantages they will NEVER have the passion that went with vinyl... just holding an album and absorbing the artwork, the credits and dropping that needle in the groove makes it so personal. I know, I know... I'm old lmao
