The First batch,
J. Geils Band: Freeze Frame
Side one is excellent, it has the two heavy hitters of the album, Freeze Frame and Centerfold. Also has Rage In the Cage, which is awesome. Side two has great unknown gems: Flamethrower, Angel In Blue, and Piss On the Wall. Also contains a fairly psychedelic song, River Blindness, not my thing, but the sounds are great and it doesn't ruin the flow of the record, so it's all good for me
The album is energetic, jumpy, has great tunes, fun tunes, and it sounds great.
Overall, 10/10, it's a solid, great, almost perfect album.
Bob Seger: Beautiful Loser
Solid record all the way through! The title track, Beautiful Loser is excellent. Side one has the rocker, Katmandu, and it rocks hard and fast. Side two has my favorites of the album though. (In preferential order) Travelin' Man, Natbush City Limits, Sailing Nights, Momma, and Fine Memory. Night Moves is an extension of this record as far as I'm concerned, and that is a great thing
Overall, 8/10, it will get plenty, and I mean plenty of play time from me, but there are other albums that I do like better.
Little Feat: The Last Record Album
Another solid Little Feat album. The more I listen to them, the more I love them. The album cover on this one stands out for me, great cover for a great record. It isn't anything Little Feat hadn't done before, it's just an extention of their great work, although the bass singing on the first track, Romance Dance, is awesome. The only thing that I don't like about this album is that the songs aren't in order on the back of the cover. It's a bitch trying to read it as the record spins!
Overall, 8/10, great record, but I'd rather listen to Sailin' Shoes or something.
Police: Ghost In the Machine
Not my favorite Police record, but for whatever reason, I'm having tons of trouble finding their records, so I'll take it when it comes
It's pretty solid, I've always Hated the first song, Spirits in the Material World. Every Little thing She Does is Magic definitely makes up for it, though. Rehunanize yourself is a great song too. The production is great.
Overall, 6/10, I like it, but it only has a few songs that I really, really like.
Amazing Rhythm Aces: Too Stuffed To Jump; Stacked Deck
Too Stuffed:
Excellent record! The production is good, nothing special.. The musicianship and song writing are excellent. This band has the perfect blend of country and rock. Too Stuffed to Jump definitely pays homage to their country influences. If Skynyrd represents the American south, then the Amazing Rhythm Aces represent the heartland(and Tom Petty has the rest of the country), this is American music in the purest, most awesome sense.
Overall, 9/10, great album, but they can do better.
Stacked Deck:
Even more excellent record!
The album is phenomenal; it has sparkling production and awesome songs. There isn't anything more to say, than this is a damn good record. It is absolutely solid all the way through both sides.
Overall, 10/10, absolutely brilliant album
Finally,
The Cars: Shake It Up
Another great Cars' record. They were on a great streak from their first one through this one. It has plenty of solid songs, but there are a few I'd rather not listen to. I like this album a lot, and the production and music is great, as expected from the cars; Shake it up is no disappointment!
Overall, 7/10, I like Candy-o and the first album better, but this is no slouch, on par with Panorama, IMO, which I like a lot. Solid, but nothing so, so, so overly impressive.
Round two will be up after my next trip
