I can't actually track down album sales figures but I get the feeling that black eyed peas may have outsold vanilla ice. The one figure I could find, though unsubstantiated, was that the Black Eyed Peas have sold 56 million in all. Considering they have only released 6 albums and the first two didn't break the big time, that means that those 4 albums since they broke have averaged maybe 10 million sales each and when you add the insurgence of illegal downloading you have to think that Black Eyed Peas have the highest selling hip hop album of all time.

Really a pointless side note but at least it means vanilla ice isn't on top

At one time, I used to have access to whatever sales figures I wanted with the click of a button or an email. I miss those days :(

From what I just read "Tupac's" All Eyez On Me is listed as the best selling rap album of all time. 10 x Platinum.

I just googled to see what was available.

I'll be damned.

I guess that makes a whole bunch of us wrong. Well, just me. But I can't help it that my personal "fact checker" is currently on strike :D

The conversation shifted due to the pointing out that Back In Black was the highest selling hard rock album.

It was then pointed out that Vanilla Ice had the highest selling rap album.

I assume this is to point out that sales don't always mean everything.

Outkast Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is the highest selling hip hop album. That is what the RIAA says, but it was a double album which really sold 5.5 million. They count the sale twice since it is a double album.

The Notorious B.I.G. Life After Death is the second highest selling hip hop album.

Yep, that was more or less the point.

There is nothing wrong with what we were talking about, and no one has forgotten the main topic of this thread anyway.

I will add that I was stunned years ago when I read how many copies Back in Black had sold worldwide, I mean I knew the album was huge but 50,000,000 is a lot of albums.(I am going by memory, it might be more but I think I am in the ballpark.;))
