This is one of my favourite and actually one of the most interesting going around, they probably aren't 'hard' as such but probably about as much as White Stripes

I love that group! You're right, they aren't hard in most respects but they are brilliant lyricists and have a very good vocalist who knows how to carry across a song with character!

My favorite from them:

These guys are pretty poppy so I'm sure they will be discredited but hey "I'm a fan!" :grinthumb

I'd definitely recommend Ghost Machinery:

Cosmic Harmony will kill me for mentioning them first, but you can't go past The Darkness:

And House Of Lords started in the 80's but have been more active over the last 10 years. This song is from 2010:

Hard rock isn't really my specialty, but I hope these few are helpful :)

There is a good Swiss group called "Shakra". They released their first album in 1998.-)

I love Hayley Williams, she is Beautiful and sings awesome (The best Female Voice in Rock History for me), but I don't think the band is one of the best.

The thing is that the best rock bands (in my opinion) of the 2000's are very "british". Their main influences are bands like Sex Pistols, The Clash the whole Post-Punk thing, stuff like the Smiths too. So they aren't bands that are really heavy on guitars, they don't use much guitar solos or stuff like that. They are more danceable songs, with creative lyrics and stuff.

This is the opposite of where I'm coming from. For me british music pretty much died in the 80s. Once Britpop hit that was the end of it for me, I'm like "g2g ttyl." (see how under 25 I am?? ROFL OMG.)

Danceable isn't a word that is in my music lexicon... 'specially not when referring to rock music. I mean I even listen to some straight up dance music but I would never refer to it as danceable, lol! Different strokes I guess. :cheers2

What do you get if Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum was recorded in 2007? Dzjenghis Khan! The best heavy psych rock of the past decade!

And from 2009...

70s is still alive! :D

I'm not under 25 either but will put in my two pennies' worth :)

Since you mentioned The White Stripes how about The Raconteurs (one of Jack White's other bands). I think they are brilliant, they've released two albums both of which I love.

The Raconteurs:

Broken Boy Soldier

Salute Your Salution

Five on the Five

Have you checked out Them Crooked Vultures (John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl & Josh Homme)?

Bandoliers

New Fang

(Talking of Josh Homme, I suppose you've already come across Queens of the Stone Age - whilst not a 00's band, they only really became really well known with the succes of their third album in 2002, Songs For the Deaf. One of my favourite bands so had to give them a mention. :grinthumb)

Another great band - Wolfmother

Dimension

Woman

These aren't a 00's band but you may like them and not have heard of them... Bigelf

Pain Killers

Madhatter
