One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands:grinthumb

It starts off with an excellent southern rock anthem.. Very powerful and hard, not quite to the point you'd call it heavy, but as hard as it gets:heheh:
Whisky Man, rock n roll with southern grind and grit..perfect, excellent opener

The second song, a cover, It's All Over Now, I'm not sure who did it originally, I just know the Stones' version and another cover of it by Social Distortion(Another excellent band:D), but MH's version is a solid cover, rock n roll pure and simple.. it's got some great rockin' piano in it.. Simple, enjoyable, cool, great guitar tone in this one especially, overall for this song, it's a good cover but not overly special, just pretty cool

Moving on, One Man's Pleasure.. This is an overlooked bit of greatness.. it starts off with an awesome bass line, then a great rock scream and some cool guitar, great song

Jukin' City, a Molly Hatchet favorite of mine.. very cool guitar and vocals, it grooves and it growls, awesome, awesome, awesome song.. Very energetic without using the speed of the song to give it energy

Next, Boogie No More.. cool tune, basic Hatchet sound, hard rock with some southern grit.. cool tune, nothing too terribly special.. until the pause, then turnaround.. it picks up and sounds awesome

The title track, Flirtin' With Disaster, ROCK 'N ROLL! Not anything more to say about this.

Good Rockin', This one sounds a little bit filler to me, It's a cool song and all, but I'm starting to get sick of this exact sound by now, the album needs something to keep me interested by this point

Gunsmoke saves the album for me, it has a little bit of a different sound, it's a bit more floaty than the other songs on the album, not as much grind and groove, more early rock n roll influence

The next song, Long Time, certainly takes the album in a different slower, more gritty ballad direction.. The guitar is very cool, this one is up there in quality with the first half of Green Grass and High Tides and Freebird, Long Time just isn't quite as long:heheh:

The album ends on a great tune, one of my favorites from it.. Let The Good Times Roll.. Nope, not the same as Hendrix, not the same as the Cars and definitely not the same song as BB King.. This is a lighthearted tune from MH, but it has the floaty sound that Gunsmoke has, and it also has the grind and southern grit of the other tracks.. this is a great way to go out on this album..

Overall, an excellent album, it's not the most exciting album, but I getpumped up every time I listen to it.. 10/10
Solid rock n roll every time.

10/10 indeed! I am a huge Molly Hatchet fan, and this album is their best.

The album art is awesome. Frank Frazetta had an amazing imagination for fantasy art. He actually painted the painting used for this cover in 1976. His museum is in the Pocano's...if you ever get a chance to visit...it is well worth it

Danny Joe Brown is my all time favorite souther rock vocalist. He had such grit and groan to his voice, that is unmatched by any other southern rock vocalist.

Not bad at all EB, nice to see you putting your new computer to good use.:hab:

That would be my favorite Molly Hatchet record, the title track is quintessential southern rock at it's best.

Well sounds like you loved this one Eberg! :grinthumb I've seen this covered floating around forever and it's cool but not something I'd picture representing their Southern Rock cover! Not saying Southern Rock can't be badass but you'd expect testosterone driven metal with that cover IMO! :heheh: I listened to Magic's track and LG's recommended "Flirting With Disaster" and I hear no instant love but this is an album I'll go through in entirety seeing as I've been going that route lately and it's had good results plus seing a 10/10 is a rarity for you so I'm curious now! :grinthumb

I like this first album alot...I know some members will toss bricks at me...or want to...but I really liked Beatin' The Odds and couldn't stop playin' it for awhile when it first came out.

Ok...bracing myself...I'm ready.

I like that one, especially the song "Beating the Odds" I don't think the album is as solid all the way through.. more ups and downs throughout it:D

The self titled one is a really cool album too though.. I almost like it better than Flirtin', but just not quite.. it's pretty close

One of fav southern rock bands along with Blackfoot. I like the s/t debut just a notch better than Flirtin' With Disaster. For me, Beatin' The Odds without Danny Joe Brown just isn't Molly Hatchet.

Another great review:grinthumb

I agree with this, there was a piece of Molly Hatchet missing, but they are still good tunes:D

Forget the label ''southern rock'' for a second...

this is one of the greatest hard rock albums ever.

Awesome album - nice review, eberg.

Great Review Eberg (reading it made me throw the album on!)& I totally agree with all of it (other than 10/10 but for me there are only a few albums out there that I would give a 10 to). Anyway, as far as "It's All Over Now" it was originally recorded by the Valentinos which featured Bobby & Shirley Womack who wrote the tune. Back in the 60's I've noticed that when songs were released as singles other bands would quickly cover them (ex.Herman's Hermits covered the Hollies Bus Stop in the 60's)The Stones version was released a couple of months after the Valentinos.. I also have versions by the Faces,Ozark Mountain Daredevils, & Johnny Winter...Wait!!!! This is supposed to be about Hatchet!!! Sorry about that I always loved that song & I really love the way Hatchet covered it! Overall there are no weak tracks & I really love "Gunsmoke". I don't know if I give it the edge over the first album but it is equal to it in my book
