Re: Official Poco Thread

I saw Poco in 1979 as the opening act.The other three bands were Boston,Van Halen and the Outlaws.
They were really good. But I have always prefered Meisner over Schmit.I just don't care for the songs he sings lead on.
Not to get off topic but you need to read Don Felder's book if you haven't.It mentions teaching Petty.
I'll have to, I'm usually not fond of books, but I've liked two that I've read, so who know:D
I like Meisner and schmit equally, in and out of the Eagles, what ever they have done, they each have certain qualities that make them very unique.... and Schmit's got some range in his vocals.. he gets high:heheh:

This is some epic Poco!!! :heheh:

My sister loves them and you did a great tribute to them eberg!!! Gonna have some listening late tonight!! Gonna be fun!!

Thanks MP:D

late night listening is always the best, quiet with no interruptions:grinthumb

Re: Official Poco Thread

So Eberg, you are definitely a mellow fellow aren't ya! That's cool! :grinthumb It's funny because I listened to the vids first and I thought this guys love for these guys must have branched from loving the Eagles and then I read the connection in your thread! :heheh: Anyway, very worthy induction from any group! I actually got into the studio examples inthis thread more than the live stuff which was too laid back and jammy for me. Very good vocalist though! :D

Re: Official Poco Thread

yeah, I didn't do a great job of picking the live clips..:heheh:
They have just enough energy for me, in a way they are perfect for any mood, it can be slow and acoustic-y, but it has energy if I'm psyched... they really prove my theory that a group doesn't have to play fast to have lots of energy:grinthumb

Re: Official Poco Thread

I am beside myself that someone has created a thread for Poco. I had many albums in my collection but never as many for one band as Poco. I recently attended their show in Akron last month and other than making me feel old as hell, it was an amazing show. But nothing will replace the memories of the June 1973 show I attended in Akron. I actually discovered them when I joined Columbia House records club and I needed to pick a 12th selection to complete my introductory package. I had never heard of them but when I put that vinyl on my turntable it changed my life. Their harmonies were incredicle especially with Timothy B. Schmit. I will always be a devoted Poco fan. By the way, their drummer, George Lawrence, owns a drum shop here in Cuyahoga Falls where I live. How ironic is that? George Grantham, their original drummer, does do a couple of shows with Poco along with Furay and Schmit. George G. suffered a stroke a while back and has been on the mend so it was good to see he has been able to perform at times with the band.

That's awesome.. he's got a drum shop, does Springsteen still have a car wash?.... Maybe Joe Walsh will open a donut shop:tongue:

What is their current line up, I didn't put that in the thread because I had absolutely no clue.... I'm still a little bitter I missed them last summer when they came around:D

The line-up in Akron last month was Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, Jack Sundrud, and George Lawrence. Since then, Paul Cotton has left the band which was a big surprise to the fans but I guess Rusty and he had talked it over and it was an amicable break. I don't know yet who will replace Paul but there is some speculation it may be a former member.

Regarding George L's drum shop....:nana: That's as about as big as it will get in my town except for Rex's Erection(Rex Humbard's went-nowhere tower restaurant).

Re: Official Poco Thread

I have picked up about 7 of their albums now, so I am officially in the Poco fan club.

I am surprised they are still touring, man these old bands are like the Energizer bunny, they keep going............and going..........and going.................................still going strong.:D
