Re: Exhorder

I gave this band a listen just on the "groove" metal label. Honestly, I like their second album a heap more than the debut. The sound is more polished and the guitars dont sound like buzz saws and they don't seem quite as aggressive and angry, which IMHO, is a good thing.

Exhorder did an excellent job covering "Into the Void".

I saw that they were back together and working on new material. Hopefully they will develope the "groove" a bit more.

Re: Exhorder

Been listening to these guys since they came out more or less. Slaughter in the Vatican is a thrash metal classic but The Law is also very good. Thrash metal is supposed to be angry lol

All the kiddies now a days like to call Pantera rip offs and say that they were copying Exorter but Pantera obviously has a much more refined and versatile sound .Not to mention the fact that they both hail from the NOLA area which has produced quite a few bands with a similar ( though not exactly the same ) sound.

Yea, I know thrash is angry...lol. I was just trying to convey that their second album is a more refined album and contained more groove than the debut, which is a good thing. I liked the second album. :)

I was scanning over the ballywho on the debut album art, what is up with that?

It's a picture of the Pope who is being taken to the Gallows for all the horrific
tortures and murders committed by the church over the years .There is a gallery of the tortures being committed up and down the lane he is being dragged down to be hanged.

Humm...I still dont see why all the controversy. The album music didn't single out the Vatican or religion near as much as the 2nd album, IMO. The second album seems to place a huge knife in the heart of religion.

I will refrain from posting the artwork of SITV for obvious reasons.

Well Phil came from the NOLA area.

That picture was from before they released Cowboys From Hell.

Huge fan of both. I can hear the influence Exhorder had on Pantera there really is no denying that, but I love both.

Yeah, but just the title and the artwork is enough to drive religious
fanatics into a feverish pitch of murderous rage. :D

The exact reason why I love the album art on a lot of metal bands, they use such imagination and creativity, even if it does excite the religious fanatics in a bad way...:heheh:

Besides the album art wasn't what hurt the band, it was their lack of better quality musicianship, which definitely improved on the 2nd release.

Re: Exhorder

Yeah, Pantera as a whole is from Texas obviously ( my bad ) but what I meant was the sound is a NOLA swamp metal thing that emerged from that area
and bands like Crowbar and other lesser known bands from the area have a bit of that same sonic vibe and sound going on and it is quite noticeable .

Phil brought that influence with him into Pantera .It's a part of his musical surroundings and the other musicians from the scene certainly don't hold it against him or see him as a "rip off". To me Pantera is no more like Exhorter then Crowbar is like Pantera. Sure they all have some strong scene similarities going on but there are also some big differences.

@ Magic,I disagree, metal of that nature is never meant to be a commercially accepted product and when it is it is more of a freak accident then anything else.
Exhorter was well known in the thrash metal underground in their day and I doubt that they feel hurt in anyway. As a matter of fact SITV is more popular then The Law is w/ most hardcore thrash fans.
