BLIND MELON
Blind Melon is an American rock band that formed in Blind Melon formed in California in 1989, with members from Indiana, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. In 1995 the band lost their vocalist Shannon Hoon to a drug overdose.
The band reformed with a new lead vocalist, Travis Warren, in 2006, who left the band in 2008.
The band's name is believed to have been derived from 1920s' Blues artist Blind Lemon Jefferson. Another story states that the band took its name from the bassist Brad's father, who teased the band calling them "Blind Melons" which even if this story is the true inspiration, the father almost certainly took the reference from either the early blues artist or the skit in parody of him in Cheech and Chong. The reference to Blind Lemon Jefferson also fits the band's blues-influenced style.
Great band IMO. Caught them with their former vocalist Travis Warren and he was great as well. They had Hoon's daughter Nico come up and sing the song Change which was pretty intense IMO.
One of the most underrated bands in music IMO. It is a shame they lost Hoon. It would have been great to see where he could have taken them.
