I have watched quite a bit of American Idol this season (I have 2 young girls!!). But she was the main reason I enjoyed it this season. She has a very cool bluesy Janis Joplin thing going, I have seen some other video of her on youtube as well and she has it....whatever it is she's got it !!

The day her CD comes out I will buy it for my wife and I

Best wishes and good luck Crystal

Crystal was truly amazing on the show! She's going to release great albums in the near future and she reminds me of Janis Joplin so much.

Actually, I didn't watch any of Idol this season because I can't stand Ellen...

but did see a couple of the early auditions, before Ellen showed up and stunk up the show with her twitty so called humor...

so, I didn't see any of Crystal Bowersox....

But after listening to the first two songs, ''Farmer's Daughter'' and '' Toledo''...I must admit, I'm totally-totally impressed....very unique voice, with a lot of passion and heart felt emotion , without over doing it....and a pretty good guitar player....what a talent.

I'd check out her album for sure...she's probably the best thing that came out of American Idol...in my opinion...

Just listened to ''Sandman''...pretty cool too.

And WoW!!...just checked out version of of Creedence's ''Long As I Can See The Light'' and my socks were blown off...love the country gospel sound she added to the song....she did the song justice... did the judges kill her on that tune?...because that was great!!!

Thanks Soots, for pointing me in the direction of Crystal Bowersox!

I really dig her...

Even American Idol bashers would like her!...maybe?

Thanks Groovy! Glad you gave her a try and it's really cool you liked her! Just one thing I wanted to point out that I didn't mentioned before is even though people say that people are given a free ride on American Idol, Crystal herself had been plying her trade as a street musician herself so it's an example of how the show helped someone out who possibly never would have had the look or style record execs wanted and through T.V. she was given the ball to run with.

Anyway, people who watched the show who are fans of her got mad because she only made second place and they get all mad about it because they thought the mainstream guy won. I think this is laughable because who cares who wins. She's got exposure and a c.d. coming out. That's all that counts to me. So, all in all, American Idol, is like EVERY source of music where it'***** or miss! Shit or gems! Crystal is one of the gems churned out from the show IMO!

Thanks again for the reply! :grinthumb

people say that people are given a free ride on American Idol,

I may be wrong, but isn't that one of the points of American Idol?....some lucky amateur gets a one in a million chance to get a free ride to the top.

I find nothing wrong with that, because like I said it's one in a million shot you make it to the show and get a recording contract.

But, I understand what you meant, Crystal Bowersox paid her dues....

but, if you win, without really paying the dues....how rare is that?...I say good for you - more power to ya!

I think we'd all take a free ride to the top...

I know I would!

And I know it's not going to happen either...

so, it's back to paying dues....

:heheh:

Exactly! Besides who's says once you get a foot in the door that an artist is done paying their dues, right? :heheh: The business is cruel and unforgiving so any artist has to have the gumption and be determined to keep creating in any capacity they can pretty much their whole lives. I'm not saying I'm sympathetic as it's a business they choose but I respect anyone who has the courage to keep living their dream like that when success at it is so fleeting. :grinthumb

I just got the album and gave it a listen! I like this a lot and it may be my favorite AI album next to Kelly Clarkson "My December"! I don't think Crystal had much of a compromise making this so I'm happy. It's got rootsy country, blues rock and more wrapped and enough pop sensibilties to make everyone happy! Here are my favorites:

Farmers Daughter
(I didn't like this version at first because I feel they polished it up to much but I've changed my tune, great personal lyrics, great melody, passionate vocals, I really like it)

Halfway to crazy, not far from sane
****in' sick and tired of all your games
All I ever wanted was you to take care of me

Honor thy mother and father too
But I know there ain't no way in hell that God mentioned you
All I ever wanted was you to care for me

Now I'm stuck in this hotel room, your grandson and me
Tomorrow we're gonna find out our destiny
All I ever wanted was you to be there for me
All I ever needed was you to be here for me

This time is the last time you're gonna see us around
This was your last chance to prove you wouldn't let me down
So go on, get going and get away from here
All alone is how you're gonna spend the rest of your years
No farmer's daughter anymore, mommy dear.

Remember back in high school, my brothers and me
Willie put his head through the door to find clarity
You'd come home with bourbon breath, Jack in the air
And when you broke my bones I told the school I fell down the stairs
All I ever wanted was for you to be there for me
All I ever needed was for you to be here for me

This time is the last time you're gonna see us around
This was your last chance to prove you wouldn't let me down
So go on home, get going and get away from here
All alone is how you're gonna spend the rest of your years

No farmer's daughter anymore
I ain't no farmer's daughter anymore
No farmer's daughter anymore, mommy dear

These next two are very bluesy and lively jams! They are filled with what a lot of classic rocker like to hear like bluesy guitars and vocals, organs, harmonicas, etc.!

On The Run and Kiss Ya
(Forgive the occasional skippy nature of "Kiss Ya" or listen to the live version please)

Love her on these ballads! "Speak Now" even though it cribs "Yellow Ledbetter" in the intro may be my favorite track but "Arlene" is a great sweet soft country twanger as well!

Speak Now and Arlene

After listening to Crystal's album I think I can say that "Speak Now" is hands down my favorite song off of her album. I'm not really blown away by the country vibe that a lot of the songs on the album have but that is a fantastic bluesy number that I totally love. It has an Allman Brothers "Soulshine" groove to it and I dig that. :grinthumb
