I'm just now starting to get into them. Any fans here? They're the avant-garde end of prog and their music isn't the most accessible. But if you have the patience and an open-mind, you'll be rewarded. A really unique collection of musicians who spawned other groups and off-shoots such as Slapp Happy and the Art Bears.

I'm in a lazy mood myself which is why I didn't go into detail. However, if no one comes forth with info on Henry Cow, I'll put something together. Like I said, I'm relatively new to the group and I'm hoping there's a few fans here who can share some insight.

Whats not to like about Henry Cow? Fred Frith is the best avante garde guitarist IMHO
He will use anything to play his guitar with ashtray, coke bottle, belt buckle etc.
There first three albums(I call themthe sock albums because they all have covers of socks)

are all excellent bizarre avante garde albums. They mix free jazz with fusion and rock. most of the albums mix piano, guitar, flute, keyboard, sax, oboe and percussion but the techniques used are bizarre. The drummer Chris Cutler used pots, pans, bunson burners and drums to create sounds. Besides the Henry Cow albums there are several chris cutler/Fred Frith albums. I saw them a few years ago

"While it was generally thought that Henry Cow took their name from Twentieth century American composer Henry Cowell, this has been repeatedly denied by band members.[2][3] According to Hodgkinson, the name "Henry Cow" was "in the air" in 1968, and it seemed like a good name for the band. It had no connection to anything."

I always liked the name then again I started listening to them in the 70's so who knows what I saw on. :oyea:

OK.....I broke my lazy spell and looked up some videos. Definitley dramatic music, an acquired taste I would say. Jazz fans would dig this stuff, IMO.
