Re: Pat Travers Band

Brings back some good memories for a fellow Canadian. Boom Boom(Out Go the Lights), and Snortin' Whiskey were always played at high school parties and got the place shakin'.

Re: Pat Travers Band

Big Pat Travers Band fan here. I think I have all or most of what Pat Travers has put out...

The Pat Travers/Pat Thrall duel guitar years were great...

''Live! Go For What You Know'' was and is one of the best live albums of the 70's and ''Crash and Burn'' is a great classic album, as well.

I really got into blues rock albums that Pat Travers put out in the 90's and all through out the 2000's - some great blues rock party music with some blistering guitar work. Pat's still rockin' today and better than ever.

Off of Crash and Burn.... the theme song to my life...

Born Under A Bad Sign

In my opinion, this is EASILY the greatest version of this song ever put on tape.

Re: Pat Travers Band

1978 saw the emergence of the official "Pat Travers Band". Pat added another guitarist, Pat Thrall, and a new drummer, Tommy Aldridge. The band began touring with Rush for their 'Drive Till you Die' tour.

1978 also saw the release of "Heat in the Street"

Re: Pat Travers Band

I'm a long time Pat Travers fan, and also have most of his lengthy catalog of albums! He is one of the more fantastic guitar players that I've both seen and listened to for many years! He continues to be an extremely impressive artist, as well as jams with many other well known and respected musicians, too!

Some of my favorite PT albums...

Makin' Magic
Heat in The Street
Live! Go For What You Know
Crash And Burn
Radioactive
Black Pearl
Hot Shot

^^It's gratifying to see so much love for someone who I always considered "Obscure" to most folks but ourselves. "Puttin' It Straight" was the first album of his I ever heard, I used to have it on vinyl but right now I don't have a copy...:(

I'll have to sniff around and see if I can find one laying around somewhere.;)

Pat Travers band's current drummer is Sean Shannon, who also use to be the drummer for Molly Hatchet and Brian Howe's Bad Co. Sean is also a professional producer / engineer. He has a pretty cool website if you want to check it out:

I forgot to list that great album, too! Thanks for reminding me, LG! Makin' Magic was the first PT album that I heard, and I was very impressed with both Pats' excellent guitar playing, music and have enjoyed listening to him since! I also liked the solid bass playing of Peter Cowling, too. He was both a great, solid bass player and also was with the PTB for many years. I haven't heard much about him since his leaving about 20 years, now? Wow, where has the time gone! :bonk:

Re: Pat Travers Band

" 'ello Music lovers...from the streets of Toronto to the streets of london...Now Here to kick your ASS...The Pat Travers Band!!!"

PT is one of my favorite guitarists. I discovered Pat Travers upon hearing the live version of "Boom Boom Out Go the Lights" on FM radio in 1979. I loved the tune but was hesitant about buying an album by him for some reason. I kept hearing the tune & liked it more upon each listen. Finally I went into Cavages Records & asked one of the clerks what Travers was like & he told me: a lot of guitars & similar to Ted Nugent(which I never understood...well I guess I could see a little). Anyway, that was enough to sell me so I picked up 'Live: Go for What you Know' & was blown away right after hearing that introduction & the first tune "Hooked on Music". My favorite tune off the album was "It Makes no Difference" which Kicks Ass. Shortly after buying the album I got to see PT live, opening for AC/DC on their 'Highway to Hell' tour. I still remember that show pretty well as it was one of the best overall shows I had ever seen(probably in my top 20). For some reason I remember he had a huge stuffed pink Bugs Bunny sitting on his amp. I was amazed at how Travers & Pat Thrall played off each other live. The highlight of the show was a song I'd never heard (I only had the Live record) which was "Life in London". After seeing that performance I bought every other PT album that was out at the time. The next year as soon as I heard "Snorting Whiskey" I had to rush out & buy 'Crash & Burn' which is a great "Headphones" album. I used to love listening to that record with headphones on especially the title track. 'Radioactive' & 'Black Pearl' were okay records but other than a few songs those 2 albums didn't hold my interest(I actually like those albums a lot more now). I was pretty impressed with his take on Beethoven's Fifth. Around that time I seen Pat Travers once again & he blew Aerosmith off the stage so despite those last 2 albums PT was still up there in my book. I enjoyed Hot Shot & School of Hard Knocks & seen him twice during that era & I was really impressed with Jerry Riggs. I love the Power Trio albums & Blues Tracks but I would say my favorite albums are 'Putting it Straight' & the S/T debut

The bass guitar he played on "Crash & Burn" was Awesome.

For any of the Guitar bands like Metallica and numerous others, there is a lesson for you on how to give your band more..."Balls" and not take Anything away from the lead guitar work. I loved the vinyl edition, and my CD is almost as good thank gawd.:D
