Yours Truly (2011)

one of the biggest unknowns in music history IMO is how good could have Bradely Nowell get. Sublime lead by singer/songwriter/guitarist Bradely Nowell and rhythm section Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson. Their style a fusion of reggae/ska/punk rock/ and hip hop made them nerver stagnet. Bradely has a great sense of meolody in his guitar playing and his vocals. IMO he had more untapped talent than Kurt Cobain.

Re: Sublime

Sublime is quite popular with among the same group of people in my town that enjoy Bob Marley and grass. I think they're good but not outstanding.

Here is a favorite of mine from them:

Re: Sublime

Sublime was a great band. It is a ****ing shame that Bradley Nowell didn't live long enough to see the tremendous sucess they had with the self titled Sublime disc. "Date Rape" got a fair amount of airplay in Boston, but I didn't make an immediate connection when "What I Got" came out. I do remember being kind of dumbfounded when I heard this fantstic new song, but the groups leader was already dead. Their albums did have a great blend of music, some very different tunes, which is really rare these days.

Here is a live version of the song, but then he didnt have any lyrics for the song at this point so he made some up on the sport. Pure genius.

Re: Sublime

Don't know much about Sublime, then a couple of songs...

but they covered the Grateful Dead's ''Scarlet Begonias''...

they added a reggae feel to it, with hip hop beats...

check it out...

same lyrics, but the 'drug buying rap' breakdown was added to the song by Sublime...

Not really a fan of this version, but I figured I'd post it, because it has to do with the Grateful Dead....

This might be for eberg...he might like this? :)

:heheh:

You know me too well, Groovy, I dug it, I never got into Sublime all that much, but I might at least have to pick that CD up:D

I thought it was pretty cool, I'd rather listen to the dead, but the cover was refreshing, and you always have to love high school videos for their class:heheh::grinthumb

Re: Sublime

Like some here, I don't know Sublime particularly well, nor do I consider myself an expert on them.

However, one thing about them I admire is that people I know in life who are fans of Sublime tend to be very dedicated, hardcore/diehard fans, none of them are casual fairweather fans, which is something that shouldn't be dismissed too quickly.

To second something greg said above, you also can't dismiss the potential that their leader had, because you honestly never know when a particular musician is going to turn in an album that ranks among the greatest of our time and that was a possibility if Nowell had survived, same as it is for pretty much any credible recording artist.

They also appeal to the masses with a few songs as well, which isn't too common when a band has such a dedicated following.. They still get radio play now, and they aren't a cult treasure.. That's probably what impressed me most about them, since you brought up that point:D:cheers2

Re: Sublime

I'm not as big of a fan as a lot of people but I dig these guys fine! They just aren't the big loss and phenom in my eyesthat a lot of their cult fan base makes them out to be. I own the self titled which is their highlight:

My favorite is still:

What I Got

It's just such a slacker stoner song but it's catchy, truly does chill you out and thee lyrics are comical!

The band behind Sublime have come out with a new album. They added "With Rome" to the band to avoid a lawsuit. Sounds like a faster, punkier version of Sublime!

Re: Sublime

I've been opening my mind in music lately so I've been listening to all these new bands (speacially ones with reggae or ska influence) and Sublime really seems cool. I need to listen some more to them, but I heard their self-titled album and it's quite a good record, very fun and catchy :D
