Bowie! Bolan! Kiss! Alice Cooper, Roxy Music ,Slade,The Sweet, Sparks,Mott the Hoople, even early Queen.....theres no doubt that the early 70s produced some highly talented artists that are still highly regarded today........but what of the others?
The lipstick, flares and platform boots era.....why was this golden age of music often ridiculed ? Was it the fashions?...or some of the bands blatantly cheesy..............you decide, comments please....

A........ARROWS

Originally a three piece formed London 1974. Singer Alan Merrill...also bass ,Jake Hooker ..guitar and Paul Varley drums
Highly talented band remembered for penning the classic song "I love rocknroll "......of course covered by JOAN JETT ....and later er... Britney :heheh:
The ARROWS had their own tv show in the UK from 76-77 that I used to watch as a kid and they played some decent tunes. They released just one album "first hit" in 1976 which I happen to own a copy. Its a bit of a disapointment with only a couple of uptempo numbers....the rest ballads.
Of course by 77 glam rock in the UK was fading ARROWS split....with Merrill joining band VODKA COLLINS.....Hooker quit music and Varley sadly died.

heres a couple of their hits.....good stuff....Merrills got a great voice!

A..............ALICE COOPER

http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f6/alice-cooper-4212/

Alice [ Vincent Furnier ] career spans more than 5 decades! Im not getting into any arguements about Alice being a shock rocker or glam rocker ...he was both. His stage shows are legendary and the man himself is STILL producing rock music of the highest quality.  "were not worthy..were not worthy!!!! " :oyea: :grinthumb
My memories of him from 1972...the excellent "schools out" single was no 1 in the charts for weeks in the uk..no 5 in the US
I love the line at the end...."schools been blown to pieces!!!"[ sounds of childish screams yehhhhhhh]....when you were a young lad at school you could relate to that :heheh:

I don't believe a lack of talent caused the glam era to fade. Of course the fashion trend faded, but that still wasn't enought to put an end to the glam era.....:nw:

Glam is still very much alive, IMHO. I believe that the blossoming of MTV in the 80's had as much to do with the demise of Glam as anything. Also the music market became gluttoned with glam artists and the music itself began to lose creativity.

Glam left a lasting impression on the world......have you ever been to a sporting event that didn't play:

IMHO, Gary Glitter was the "cheesiest" of all the glam artists, and this song has no lyrics of any fiber, but why do we love it so much that we play it at all sporting events?

Glam was about having catchy riffs and hooks, the music had to be fun! Rock and Roll is just fun, catchy, and the screams and yells are primal but fun.

Glam=fun

:cheers2

My school was blown to pieces about ten years after I left Lou. Really posh houses now.

Alice is a legend "Schools Out" and "Billion Dollar Babies" great stuff.:cheers2

Agreed Magic.....Glam is fun ......there was always an excitement about 70s/80s glam rock!!.......heres hoping for another revival

A.......ANGEL [ See METALPRIESTS .. ANGEL appreciation thread ]

http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f6/angel-appreciation-thread-3469/

ANGEL formed Washington DC 1975 Frank Di mino [vocals],Punky Meadows [guitar] Mickey Jones [bass] Gregg Giuffria [keyboards]Barry Brandt [ drums ] were the finest bunch of musicians......[ ok..its gonna get a bit biased as they are my fave band of all time ]
Remembered for being on the same CASABLANCA label as KISS. ANGELs glam image of dressing in white was quite spectacular.Their debut album was a gem of hard rock with Giuffrias impressive keyboards giving the band a progressive edge.
After many superb albums....they split... Giuffria..had a band with the same name...then joined HOUSE OF LORDS
ANGEL returned briefly with the "in the beginning" album some 20 years later.....there is also talk of a album finished this year.....Dimino and Brandt remain from the original line up.Micky Jones r.i.p

You got a long way to go but I am looking forward to following this thread's progress!

I'm very fond of the original glam era.

I have an oldie glam artist (70's era glam, which is very different from 80's glam), who has been totally fogotten, but I bet you will remember this song:

Alvin Stardust
