Formed in 1995, the idea for the group came from The Lime Spiders & The Someloves founder, Daryl Mather. The band consisted of Ken Stringfellow of The Posies, and formerly The Lonely Hearts, Anthony Bautovich, Mitch Easter, and Mather.
I just found them recently on a blog I like, he posts up albums and such from bands, you may know it, Powerpopcriminals... it's really cool, he posts up stuff that was either unreleased or not re-released. Anyways, THOB was a new one, and I downloaded The Alternate Assorted Creams.. and it is excellent, they are fun, but they remain together and tight musically, it's simple rock n roll, with some great passion and pain and fun and happiness through the whole album, I really like it
wiki said:Following a three-year absence from the music scene (since the break-up of The Someloves), Mather returned in 1994 with more than an album's worth of new songs, which he took to his old friend Bill Gibson. The songs formed the basis of The Orange Humble Band's first album, Assorted Creams. Recordings for the album took place in 1995 with Bill Gibson on bass, Matt Galvin on lead guitar, Peter Kelly on drums, Anthony Bautovich on vocals. The final recording of the album took place in Mitch Easter's studios in North Carolina with Easter making contributions to the vocals, before a singer, Ken Stringfellow, was recruited. The album was released in 1997.
The band's second album, Humblin’ (Across America) was released over three years after their debut album, as opposed to Assorted Creams the album only took an eighteen months gestation from recording to release. The band, essentially retained the same line-up from their debut album, with Darryl Mather, Anthony Bautovich, Mitch Easter and Ken Stringfellow. They did however enlist in support, Jody Stephens (Big Star, Golden Smog) on drums, Jamie Hoover (The Spongetones) on bass, with Spooner Oldham (Dan Penn, Aretha Franklin, Neil Young), and Jim Dickinson playing organ and piano on several other tracks.
