I have a compilation by them. I never hear them anywhere. They wer ahead of the curve and Goin' Up The Country was pretty over played when it was out. It was a popular title. On The Road Again more than reveals their inner workings and people should do some digging into them.

Re: Anyone Mention Canned heat?

I never really got into Canned Heat, the song you mentioned is the only tune of theirs I remember.

You have to love the name of this song, and it is pretty humorous, too

I was a big Canned Heat fan. My brother-in-law had the album Canned Heat Cookbook and that's where I first heard them. I miss Bob "The Bear" Hite and Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson.

They're one of my favorite blues bands ever. Going up the country is awesome hippie song, I love it, and other songs like On the Road Again, Dust My Broom, Bullfrom Eyes, Let's Work Together and Amphetamine Annie are just superb. Btw Blind Owl was great guitarist.

Seein' we have a bunch of knowledgeable Canned Heat fans, recommend for me the very best album this band recorded, not a greatest hits compilation though.;)

I love Canned Heat. Woodstock Veterans. There music is right up my alley. Hippy Blues Boogie Rock. They were more than a two hit wonder. From what I understand they had a big following in the 60's and early 70's. I've been a big fan for a long time - I had them on vinyl back in the day, now have them on CD.

I miss Bob "The Bear" Hite and Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson.

Indeed, they were Canned Heat. Great singer and great guitarist. R.I.P.

Lord Grendel, I highly recommend ''Boogie With Canned Heat''. If you get the version with the bonus tracks, it's even better!

Re: Anyone Mention Canned heat?

Let me bring the youngsters and all those who've had sheltered middle class upbringings up to speed on how this band got its name:

About.com:blues said:
Canned Heat - Slang term for Sterno, a commercial jellied alcohol used to heat food, typically placed beneath metal pans on a banquet or buffet line. Strained through cloth (or sometimes even white bread), it can be drunk to get intoxicated. Early Mississippi Delta bluesman Tommy Johnson is said to have drank "canned heat," and wrote his song "Canned Heat Blues" about the nasty stuff. The 1960s blues-rock band Canned Heat took their name from the Tommy Johnson song.

Just keeping it real.A Canned heat.jpg
