1947 Guitarist Peter Banks, a founding member of Yes who is with the band until 1970, is born Peter William Brockbanks in Chipping Barnet, North London, England.

1948 Thomas Delmer Pyle is born in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1974, under the name Artimus Pyle, he joins the band Lynyrd Skynyrd. His musical career with Skynyrd earns him induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

1952 David Pack (frontman for Ambrosia) is born in Huntington Park, California.

1952 Jeff Carlisi (guitarist for .38 Special) is born in Boston, Massachusetts.

1956 Joe Satriani is born in Westbury, New York.

1973: Grand Funk Railroad released their seventh studio album, We’re an American Band. The LP was the group’s first collaboration with producer and engineer Todd Rundgren, who went on to also produce the group’s next album, Shinin’ On.

1977: Yes released their eighth studio album, Going for the One. The album was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland after their 1976 North American tour and after each member had released a solo album. During sessions, keyboardist Patrick Moraz left and was replaced by Rick Wakeman, who had previously left to pursue a solo career.

1989 Pink Floyd appeared in Canal di San Marco, Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy on a floating stage. Over 200,000 people attended the gig (almost double the number authorities had planned for) causing damage to buildings and bridges. The cleaning of the area after the concert was said to be around £25,000 and the concert was broadcast live on TV to over 20 countries with an estimated audience of almost 100 million. Two Venice councilors were later ordered to stand trial for the costs incurred by the concert.

1998 Aerosmith were forced to cancel a forthcoming US tour after Joey Kramer was involved in a freak accident. The drummer's car set on fire and was completely destroyed as he was filling up with petrol. He was admitted to hospital with second-degree burns.

1978 - Bob Dylan performed at what was the biggest open-air concert in history for a solo artist, playing for more than 200,000 fans at "The Picnic at Blackbushe" at Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire, England.

1988 MTV bans Neil Young's video "This Note Is For You", which parodied corporate Rock by showing a Michael Jackson look-alike whose hair catches fire. The ban would soon be lifted and the video was put into heavy rotation, resulting in it eventually winning the MTV Video Music Award for Best Video of the Year in 1989.

2017 The first Eagles concert since Glenn Frey passed away in January, 2016, took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Detroit rocker Bob Seger joined Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, Joe Walsh and Vince Gill for "Heartache Tonight".

2018: Guns N' Roses' epic music video for "November Rain" became the first video released after YouTube was launched to reach 1 billion views on the platform. It has since surpassed 2 billion views.
