    Worst songs ever made

Never much liked the original, but my God it's nowhere near as bad as the cover ... makes me want to put rusty knitting needles in my ears whenever it comes on the radio.

    How important are rock critics?

Oh for the old record shops uh? We were lucky to have so many in Manchester back in the day. (Yanks/Powercuts) was a favourite for Rock fans.) And often you would get to know the guys and girls selling stuff to you, and could get lots of advice and often a 'if you like that, have a listen to...

    All Music, No Words.

This is the title track from his final band album with 3rdeyegirl. They certainly had their Zep heads on for it ...

    How important are rock critics?

Back in the day there were several in Sounds, NME, Melody Maker and even Kerrang! that I would take note of their reviews. Mainly those I knew shared similar likes. As the OP pointed out though, that was pre internet days, and I couldn't name you a single critic out there.

    All Music, No Words.

Arnel can certainly sing. And I was very impressed first hearing him. But live I find him a bit forced and trying too hard kinda thing. Cannot quite put my finger on it. Having said that, after the car crash that was Soto singing, he's ideal. (I actually like Soto, just didn't enjoy the two gigs...

    All Music, No Words.

If the Perry police come after you for that, they will lynch me for this ... but I love Steve Augeri's voice in the band. I was a fan of Tall Stories, and thought he was the perfect fit. He could sing all the Perry stuff, but wasn't a clone (like some ;-) ) In fact, I rate the Arrival album...

    Prince (Official Thread)

One of my all time favourite artists. I read about him in the UK music press, and liked what I read. I was in London with a girlfriend in around 82/3 (?) and we were walking down Tottenham Court Rd, past the Dominion Theatre, and I saw a poster saying 'Tonight, from the USA: Prince'. I vividly...

    Jellyfish (Official Thread)

Bellybutton was an absolute classic for me. Loved everything about it. Perfect Powerpop. However, try and try as I have I just never could 'get' Spilt Milk in the slightest. Odd uh?

What Are You Listening To? Redux (No Videos)

Became a fan on seeing them supporting Blue Oyster Cult at Manchester Free Trade Hall in1978. (Though they didn't go down to well with the audience in general) It was their NYD/Glam look then. (A big influence image wise on Girl and Hanoi Rocks) In a career lasting just five short years they...

What Are You Listening To? Redux (No Videos)

Just got this and giving it's first spin. I became a fan around 78, and far prefer their earlier 'raw and dirty' sound from pre clean up (bland out) of the later years. This is clearly just demo quality, and actually makes the raw funk of their Live Bootleg sound like a Mutt Lange job :) But I...

What band have you followed the longest without having seen them live?

Sweet ... never saw the original line up (but did see them as a three piece) Also Led Zeppelin.

    Paisley Underground Anyone?

In this case it was 'branded' by one of the bands, vocalist/bassist Michael Quercio of The Three O'Clock coined the phrase. :-)

    Is Your Partner Into Rock?

Just wondering, the above question. A mate recently met what he otherwise thought was a perfect woman, but it's beginning to be a problem that she actively hates Rock music in all it's forms. She is into Hip Hop/Rap/Dance and nothing else. Can it still work out? I couldn't imagine it for...

What Are You Listening To? Redux (No Videos)

Missus ordered this on vinyl, and after it's arrival this afternoon, it's getting a spin right now. We have both loved it for many years, really took my breath away at the time. His voice was superb, he could go from a whisper to a scream in a heartbeat and at times sounded very like early...

My joint favourite Aussie band along with The Church.

    Paisley Underground Anyone?

Preceded Madchester by a good few years. I heard and saw the PU in The Stone Roses the minute I heard their first album. Which came as a suprise as when I first saw the Roses, they were almost Goth to hear. Mainly down to their very Goth then bassist Pete Garner (R.I.P.) who I knew from his...

What Songs/Bands First Got You Into Music?

He scored at both ends that day ... bastid. :-) And I was at the replay too. Am sure leading up to our upcoming tie, Ricky Villa's goal from it will be shown ad infinitum. ;-)

    Paisley Underground Anyone?

As the title asks, any fans of this movement from the 80's? Initially it was L.A. bands like The Three O'clock, Rain Parade, Dream Syndicate, Bangles, Green On Red etc, but then spread to include such as The Long Ryders, Let's Active, REM, True West and the Aussie contingent of The Church and...

What Songs/Bands First Got You Into Music?

Other than Benny Hill's Ernie, I had zero interest in music as a kid. My world was football (playing and supporting my hometown club, Manchester City ... dad took me to my first game when I was 8, and I have had a season ticket since 1983) nothing else mattered. Then one Thursday evening, I was...

    If classic rock didn't exist....

Plenty .... besides CR I also love Powerpop, Indie, Funk, and especially The Paisley Underground (which does often cross over into Indie) My favourite bands outside Cr genre are Japan, Prince, Cocteau Twins, The Dream Syndicate and Jeff Buckley.

    John Otway

We were at his Abbey Road studio day ... He wanted a second hit single, so he would no longer be a one hit wonder. We all got to sing backing vocals on what was to be the B side of the single, his unique take on House Of The Rising Sun. We got our names on the single, and it got to No.9 in the...
