Discuss Dream Theater. They are truly a talented band. My favorite Dream Theater album is "metropolis part 2: scenes from a memory" I also love "awake" and "six degrees of inner turbulence" how about you guys?

Just started getting into them this year with Octavarium. I've got Awake, Train of Thought, Live at Budokan and Falling Into Infinity. Of them these I think Awake is probably my favorite. Still working on getting the rest of their catalog.

ive also just got into them, its a shame that the U.S. kinda shuns them though... As a combination of pink floyd, rush, yes, and mettalica all in one, its like fudge on a stick. i own most of the collection thanks to the wonderful world of downloading, though i did buy scenes from a memory which has created an entire world of inspiration for me... some really cool stuff they got for sure. Portnoy to this day is the fastest drummer ive ever heard adn petrucci is unbelievably fast and creative.

they get a smattering of FM airplay here in Sunny California.
I think the problem is how segmented the radio formats are and many bands of merit straddle those lines.

Dream Theater on the radio???? wow!!!! that is (or seems to be) unusual.

Images and Words is my favorite album with the first song "Pull Me Under" being my favorite song of thiers.
The new album Octovarium is a very good album, not their best but very solid. "Panic Attack" is the highlight of this album for me anyway.

That is easily the best album I also like Images and Words, but that might be only because I like Metropolis Part 1.

I'm still trying to figure out what Metropolis is about. I figured out that Nicholas is going to a Hypnotherapist to remember something.[track 1]

I figured out that Victoria came to The Miracle for comfort (I think) but I can't figure out why[track 8], but was married or in a relationship with the Sleeper, and was actually in love with the Sleeper [track 12].
I also figured out that The Miracle killed Victoria, and then killed the Sleeper, and made it look like the Sleeper killed Victoria, then killed himself [track 12].
Presumably, the Miracles was the "witness" in track 6, and lied about what he saw.

I just can't figure out where Nicholas comes in. Is he the father of Victoria? Anyone know?

I am a very recent convert to Dream Theater. I have Images and Words and Scenes from a Memory as well as the concert DVD from their tour of Japan. Great band! Peace.

Dream Theater is my favorite band of all time. They are some of the most skilled musicians I've ever heard. Scenes from a Memory is definitely my favorite album of theirs, but I like them all. I like how all of their albums are different, but still have that Dream Theater sound. I can't wait for June 5, when their new album 'Systematic Chaos' is released.

The new CD is very good. I need to listen to it more often. So much good music ... so little time to listen. Peace.

My favorite DT album is definitely "Metropolis Pt. 2, Scenes of a Memory."

One thing I wish they would do is more studio albums and less live albums. I have their whole discography and it seems that they have gone overboard on the live stuff and not written enough new material in my opinion.

I still don't get why so many people dig DT. I mean, to each his own, but I could never get into their music. Pull Me Under is my most hated part of Guitar Hero.

Default Dream Theater

Dream Theater have been consistently producing great music since the 80's and have 10 albums to choose hits from. They're one of the frontrunning progressive metal bands, and show no signs of stopping!

^^I have everything they ever recorded, even all of their Live stuff.

Just letting you know Sal we already have a thread for this band in the Progressive section...so it might get merged.

Fair enough. They are a progressive metal band, so I flipped a coin as to what section to put them in

There will be times when we archive old threads and encourage completely new ones to start from scratch, usually when a big fan arrives and the old thread is dead in the water I will archive it and let the new one take it's place, in this case Magic and I are both active in the DT thread so we kept it.

You are right they could go in either section, but I feel they are more Prog than Metal, but regardless they are an Awesome band....I like them alot.
