They're one of my three all-time-favorite groups of the rock era (the other two being the Beatles and U2, if anyone cares to know). I have all their studio albums, right up through Magnification. OK, the thread's here. Anyone care to discuss?

| Re: The Yes Thread The Fragile album helped me get a B in Music Appreciation class in College. My instructor was a classical music freak and didn't like rock at all. We argued daily. I told him a group had kind of fused classic & rock together. He said it can't be done(this was in 1973). I brought the album to class and he took it home and listened to it. He liked it so much that he bought one for himself. I didn't turn in my required notebook and still received a B. He said it was for classroom participation. |

| Re: The Yes Thread I am with you Mr. Flee, so many people hate Tormato but I like it and saw them tour after they released that album. I love Chris Squire's bass on that album.
Fragile = My favorite Yes recording.

| Yes Feature Hi,
My name is Ben Hewitt and I'm the news editor of The Quietus, a UK music website.
We've just published an interview with Yes bassist Chris Squire, which I think you guys might be interested in. http://thequietus.com/articles/03185...rview-with-yes
Have a read and let us know what you think!
Cheers

| Re: The Yes Thread
I have been taking the effort to listen to albums that I have not heard before, and Yes made that list with "Time and a Word" their 2nd album released in 1970.
This album is totally different than anything else I have heard from Yes. This album was the last album with the original band line-up, and the decision to make this album with an orchestra didn't sit well with members, causing Peter Banks to be fired from the band. What amuses me is Steve Howe is pictured on the album cover, but didn't participate in the album...which is a complete and cold slap to Banks.
This album didn't get very good reviews back in the 70's so I was very hesitant in listening..........but I have to say, I think the added orchestra strings was brilliant. Although at times the orchestra overshadows the band, I still feel the album is worth giving a listen: No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed Fabulous opening song. Then This is the gem of the album. Everydays Some great sounds by the orchestra, otherwise a very slow song. Sweet Dreams Another gem. The Prophet Great Orchestration. Clear Days EWWW! Astral Traveller This is a decent song which more resembles something from Yes. Time and a Word Title track, and just fluff for the album.
Not a terrible album, and worth experiencing but would I buy it, no. |

| Re: The Yes Thread I have that one, but haven't played it yet. I am sure the orchestra would make it interesting, many groups were experimenting with that combination in the 60's. |
