i'd love to get into a good prog-rock band.

i'll tell you what i like and dislike in that genre.

do not like yes-too many keyboards.
do not like elp- same reason.
do not like jethro tull.
don't like peter gabriel genesis.

i like some of marillion.
i own two phil collins's genesis which i love-a trick of the tail and wind and wuthering.
i love pink floyd from dark side of the moon onward.
i love supertramp's crime of the century.
i have two roger waters albums-radio kaos and amused to death.
i have two camel albums-snow goose and moonmadness.

that it i think. that may give you a clue as to what i like in a prog-band?
i really don't like a lot of keyboards, although i suppose camel and early supertramp highlighted them.
ideally i'd love to find a band that feature lots of lead guitar, however i imagine most people fancy that, but there aren't that many bands like that around?

thanks.

That's quite rigorous

Nektar's 'A Tab In The Ocean'
Curved Air
Argent
Atomic Rooster's 'Death Walks Behind You'
Babe Ruth's 'First Base'
Black Bonzo
Uriah Heep
Bloodrock
Bodkin
Captain Beyond (highly recommended)
Lucifer's Friend
High Tide
Omega
Power Of Zeus
Warhorse

Since I like all of the bands that you dislike, you probably won't like any of my recommendations. However, I can recommend a website if you haven't been there before. Progressive Rock Ultimate Discography

Oh BTW, Andrew Latimer of Camel is a great guitarist.

Camel - Missing

Given that, I would highly recommend Wishbone Ash. Particularly check out the albums Argus and Wishbone Four.

If you do like Wishbone Ash, which I second, then also check out Hawkwind, who I think are similar but better.

Another great Wishbone Ash album that gets overlooked by most people is
Illuminations.

Wishbone Ash - Mountainside

I enjoy the guitar work on Nektar's "Magic is a Child" album. Dave Nelson replaced Roye Albrighton on this one and did a great job, even though he is not as great as Roye.

As someone who also likes Camel, I would recommend Barclay James Harvest. Here's a good song to start with:

Golden Earring and Man use some keyboards, but not much. Nektar's keyboards tend to take second place to Roye Albrighton's guitar. Nektar Live in New York and More Nektar Live in New York are good, but not easy to find. They have been remastered and put together. Focus are centred around Jan Akkerman's underrated guitar. Early Kansas use a variety of instruments, like violin.
