Pink Floyd and King Crimson. I love In the Court of the Crimson King and Red... Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are also awesome, and The Wall has a distinct sound.

You're welcome.

As for King Crimson I'd start with "The Court Of The Crimson King". That's probably their most popular and my favorite.

I'm not listening to much prog these days but I still need to spin some of my classic, symphonic prog stuff at least once a year. My favorites are the biggies from the early/mid 70s: YES, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Rush (70s), Kansas (70s). There's a few "third wave" bands I like too (Spocks Beard, Flower Kings). I'm not quite as fanatical about this stuff as I was 10 years ago but I still need to hear some prog once in a while.

Seems I've only the one post in here, how odd

Well, other than Genesis as I stated in that post, I've also been getting into these bands, most of them thanks to this very forum

(In order of most recent first)
Kaipa
Spock's Beard
Eloy
Transatlantic
Camel
Nektar
ELP
Mostly Autumn
Wishbone Ash
King Crimson
Alan Parsons Project
Styx
The Decemberists
Yes
Rush
Marillion
Kansas
Dream Theater
Porcupine Tree
Supertramp
Pink Floyd

And my list is constantly growing, as I delve further and further into the treasure chest that is progressive rock

My taste in prog bands just leans towards the more well know ones. I used to listen to prog a lot 25- 30 years ago, and a lot of it i still love. (I even played bass in a Yes cover band briefly about 15 years ago).

My faves are:

King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Yes
ELP
Jethro Tull
Genesis (with Peter Gabriel, not without!)
Mahavishnu Orchestra (more fusion than prog, but they're related)
Zappa (who fits into many categories!)
Rush
