Tori's First Single
At age seventeen Tori released her first ever single Baltimore! The song was written with her brother Micheal Amos and was released as a 45 which also had another song called Walking With You on it! It was written about the Baltimore Orioles for a songwriting contest in which she and her brother won!
This sounds nothing like the Tori we know, in fact it's cheesy as hell , but it'd be a great find for any Tori addict to own!
Here's the songs:
Baltimore
It's so nice to live here
I'm glad this is my home
I've got a homestead on Baltimore Street
It's someplace to call my own
It's all kinds of people
Familiar places, smiling faces
I'm proud to say I'm a Baltimorian
But the 'Birds' are the best
The best of Baltimore
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
I've got Oriole Baseball on my mind
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
To enjoy the brotherhood of Baltimore
The sun sets across the bay
I'm glad I spend my day
In a working American city
With all the people who make it that way
It's time to jump in a taxi
For Thirty-third Street
Knowing I'll be watching those 'Birds' go,
Watching Weaver's Show
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
I've got Oriole Baseball on my mind
On my mind in Baltimore
Here's the other song on the 45:
Walking With You
(slightly less cheesy )
Every night I sit alone
Waiting to see you at my door
Arriving at the usual time
Waiting to share your love with mine
Well I've waited a lifetime just to find you
But you have to believe it's success that were seeking
Then in a few months you can come home to me
It's the job that you need
It's the school that you have to complete
You just have to go on with your days
But I'll be waiting right here as I am
But before you leave make me a promise I'll need you to keep
Remember me while you're away
Think of me when you're alone
In everything that I do
I do it in two's
'Cause I'll always be walking with you
'Cause I'll always be walking with you (side by side)
Always be walking with you (in my mind)
Always be walking with you (always be walking)
With you
Facing another empty evening
Lying alone here in my bed
You keep my mind from my job
But you lead my life with love
You hold my chin up high
You're love shines through my eyes
Your soul walks by my side
Keeping this body alive
As I run to catch the bus
I get a strange look or two
'Cause instead of just buying a ticket for me
I also buy a ticket for you
Now some people say I'm crazy
But It's the only way not to be blue
In everything that I do
I do it in twos
'Cause I'll always be walking with you
Always be (x4)
I'll always be walking with you
Remember me while you're away
Think of me when you're alone
In everything that I do
I do it in two's
'Cause I'll always be walking with you
'Cause I'll always be walking with you (side by side)
Always be walking with you (in my mind)
WOW Tori getting all Love American Style!!! That's AWESOME!!!
Baltimore could have been a really kick ass 70's sitcom theme song for sure! That's amazing!! I actually love it as geeky as it is. It's geeky in a good way! So cool to hear this. I need to see if I can find it for my Tori collection. Can you get it??

You can if you are willing to pay $2,000-$5,000! Only 500 pressing were madeso it's quite a rarity!
Here's a rarity Tori released in a period she calls the Baltimore Sessions! I like it better than both the above songs! It's like if Tori wrote a song for a Disney Flick!
Just Ellen
ever since i met you captured my heart
you treated me like a lady from the very start
guess i'm a little girl in her dreams
who doesn't want to see
that i have to grow older and change on my own
i want to be a singer, but go it alone
but it is so hard for me 'cause i don't want to see that
i'm too young for a man
but i'm too old for a boy
so can't we just pretend
that i'm older than i really am
but then, only little girls pretend
i put on all the make-up that i can possibly find
i'm five years older in just a minute's time
but i can't compete with the ladies that attract your kind
so i rummage through my sister's things
hoping to find something that will catch your eye
to make you change your mind
so i won't have to leave, so you won't say to me
i'm too young for a man
but i'm too old for a boy
so can't we just pretend
that i'm older than i really am
but then, only little girls pretend
i'm left out in the night
i've lost all my senses
i know this isn't right
but you've captured my defenses
i really am in love
well that's the way i feel
this game has to stop
'cause you know it can't be real
i'm too young for a man
but i'm too old for a boy
so can't we just pretend
that i'm older than i really am
but then, only little girls pretend
i know i'd make you happy
but i'm too young for a wife
love is always special but i know i can't rush life
so i'm waiting in the wings to see what life will bring
and maybe in a few years when i am wise and tall
love will light again and shine upon us all
he says i'm a little girl in her dreams
who doesn't want to see
i'm too young for a man
but i'm too old for a boy
so can't we just pretend
that i'm older than i really am
but then, only little girls pretend
The first two songs remind me of The Carpenters. And I don't think I would have recognised them as being by Tori, Just Ellen however is unmistakably the Tori voice I know and love!
Thanks for posting - was interesting to listen to!
Thanks Cosmic and I agree Lady might have a new artist to listen too BUT right now since I'm inching along methodically and therefore have just started the music portion it might be better if Lady comes in once I've at least past Y Kant Tori Read (her 80's Hair Band rock group) and at least made it through her debut solo album! AKA Once I get off my ass and get through another couple updates!
Well no rush Sooty. Newton's Law says that your ass don't feel like moving.
But when I sent Lady that hodgepodge of assorted new artists (new to her anyway) a couple months ago she said she really loved Tori's "Cornflake Girl" so she really should get her butt in here eventually......and for some reason we're talking about everyone's butts.
I keep trying to get Sox into her, but haven't managed so far. He always seems to walk in the room when a particularly strange track is playing - one that immediately comes to mind is The Power of Orange Knickers - he said wtf are you listening to and left the room shaking his head
A lot of my friends most of whom are rockers and or metal fans think I'm crazy for this but I really like the first two Tori Amos albums alot. I haven't really followed much more of her stuff but songs like God , Cornflake Girl ,etc. are really good interesting pieces of music.
@ Tray-I love The Power of Orange Knickers because not only does it have Tori but it also has Damien Rice who is also an amazing artist. I do agree that the song is quirky but strange is as much of a good quality in the fabric of music as anything. I mean hell half the people in here listen to Prog so they should LOVE strange after liking certain bands they like. By the way, that's not a knock to Prog! I happen to like a good share of it and most of my favorite bands incorporate Prog influences into their music!
@ DaKillerWolf-First of all thanks for your first visit in your thread. I've seen your epic threads and they show you know your stuff so you just gave Tori some good cred in my opinion by showing respect to her! I do think you jumped off the Tori bus too soon as her two follow ups are her at her most creative and vital. I have a review of From The Choirgirl Hotel which is my favorite period if you are interested. The links are all Grooveshark as Youtube is spotty for Tori studio tracks. Here you go:
As far as your rock and metal friends considering how much influence Tori pulled from early rock and Metal audiences they should probably give her a closer listen. No ones brought the piano closer to rock in my opinion!
I hate to admit that a lot of them are a bit closed minded when it comes to music of this nature.
I am interested BTW , I have been meaning to listen to more of her stuff for a very long time now. Into The Pink & Little Earthquakes are two excellent releases in my opinion. I really like a lot of female fronted alt (?) rock like Mazzy Star, Joan Osbourne's first album etc. And Tori is just very inventive and is a beautiful songwriter but with a weird quirk about her that I love. I am one of the many progressive rock fans here so I get what you mean about the similarities in the strangeness of her music and a lot of prog rock.
I will look into your review soon but I am about to head out for the evening to dinner etc. so I will talk to you later about my impressions etc..
Tori played with an orchestra in Amsterdam earlier this month.
For several years Tori has not done the whole Yes Anastasia but with an orchestra she did the whole thing.

Great clips Aktivator. I still can't forgive myself that I missed her concert from 2007 in Romania. I have bought the ticket a few month in advance for the show but I could not travel that day to Bucharest . I hope I will have another chance in this life to see her live.
