Default Most Overrated Bands of the 90's

Nirvana-never really got it. Kurt is incoherent. An average guitar player. Dave Grohl is the only bright spot.
Radiohead- never could get into them. I like a handful of songs, listen to OK Computer many times and just not my cup of tea.

Nirvana made some good music, but I agree that they were blown into the sky after Kurt's death.

Radiohead...I can't get my head around them either for the most part, but I do respect them for what they've achieved. Also, listening to Pablo Honey (Which I'm slowly, slowly liking) it's easy to hear how ahead of their time they were back then. It sounds like it was released last year IMO when it's actually from 1993.

I've also never been able to see the appeal of Soundgarden, maybe they're just not for me, for whatever reason.

Yup...bands that I don't get...well it's just because I don't get it..so maybe there is something wrong with me.

All kidding aside....all bands are good and worthy. It's what the listener is taking from it, what they allow themselves to understand.

Sometimes they don't get the joke, the serious subject matters, or at times the fun some artists put across.

It's not a crime to not like an artist or a band as long as we realize that in rock and roll...everyone does something a bit different or odd...that's rock 'n' roll.

But do we get it or not is a different question or does it serve our purpose. In general, there is nothing but pro musician's throughout this forum and they all should be applauded for having loyal fan bases.

They're all doing something right.

It is a negative thread Annie.

I agree with Greg about Nirvana, I don't say they are overrated, but I just don't like them very much, my biggest complaint is there are many other Seattle area bands that were pivotal to the whole music scene beyond just Nirvana.

Radiohead...I do like and consider them a cutting edge band in the last two decades, I don't go overboard praising them but OK Computer is an excellent album.

Hmm, I'll have to check the "Buzz Box"collection for the most overrated 90's band.

Rumour had it that Limp Bizkit was overrated.

Going to have to disagree with the reasons for Nirvana being overrated.

Cobain was actually a good guitarist, better then average.

He played in a so called grunge band that was really just a Punk band. Punk bands do not really need to have their lyrics be heard coherently.

Before you bring up the lyrics like you have in other forums, they are called cryptic lyrics. They are much more original then in your face songs IMO and that takes talent.

Nirvana are not the most overrated band in the 90's.

Green Day, Offspring, Nu-Metal bands, and Nine Inch Nails are the most overrated bands in the 90's.

I hate that word as well, but these bands are nothing quite honestly. Green Day had only one really worth while record. Same can be said about the Offspring. Nu Metal always sucked.

Nirvana played a huge part in exposing the mainstream to amazing music that would be overlooked because the bands they exposed were indie bands with little press.

LG I agree. Mudhoney is the most overlooked band that came from Seattle. They are the reason for Nirvana's explosion since they one influenced Nirvana and two since they went over to Europe and were well received which created the Hype in Seattle.

Nirvana was not intended to be the break out band from Seattle. Mudhoney was. The only problem was Mudhoney was not melodic like Nirvana.

I could go on and on and on.

The people who say Nirvana are overrated.... well let me rephrase that. One of the most overrated bands in the 90's have no clue.

Are they overrated as a band? No was Cobain? As a guitarist that can be argued because he was a good guitarist and I have yet to hear anyone get the same tone or sounds from their guitar like he did.

I don't think they were overrated at all but obviously there are a heap of people who do. We could discuss our differences of opinion until we did this and this

I like Green Day's first record. Nine is hit or miss honestly. That is why I considered them to be overrated, well I should say Reznor overrated haha.
