While I stand firmly being Freddie being the most engaging and entertaining lead singer and frontman ever if we're talking strictly from an 80's stance I'd have to pick others. While Freddie put his wonderful piano work on the back burners in the 80's so that he could interact with the crowd more and perfected his craft of being a frontman my picks would be either Axl Rose and David Lee Roth.
Axl used to run back and forth all over Guns N' Roses' huge stage while singing his lungs out and Diamond Dave used to emit energy all over the stage as he did his mid air slips and spinning kicks. Dave even took his Dave-ness to the next level as a solo artist and was just a funny guy who would blow you away this is acrobatics and theatrics.
Mick Jagger....the guy is everywear...all over the stage.

I'll cast a vote for Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band.
This video doesn't have the best audio, but it gives you an idea as to the energy he puts out during their shows. Not too bad for a 63 (at the time) yr old.
Henry Rollins (Black Flag)
Ian McKaye (Minor Threat)
Ron Reyes (Black Flag)
Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys)
Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies)
Keith Morris (Circle Jerks)
Mark Arm (Mudhoney/Green River)
Iggy Pop...terrifying poor unsuspecting audience members since 1967.

I would also go with Freddie Mercury. That man totally rocks. I think there aren't that many good frotnmen out today. It just seems like all past times were better (at least in the frontman category, ando probably in a lot other rock related things).
For me, the best frontman in the world - is Freddie Mercury. There are many great rock singers, but none can compare with him. Such a talent is born once every hundred years!
