Some of my forum friends are far more knowledgeable about this band than I am but here's a short introduction.

Let's talk about one of the most successful Hard Rock/Hair Metal bands of the 80's, Dokken. The band released their first album "Breaking the Chains" in 1983 and didn't get much attention in the US but Dokken was always very popular in Europe, not the first time my Eurpoean friends recognized quality before we did over here.

Jeff Pilson joined in 1984 and they released "Tooth And Nail" on Elektra records, along with the success of the album the tour with the Scorpions put them on the road to success. I have only recently gotten into this band due to MP and Pat and Lynch all being fans, so I can't claim to be an expert yet, but I do have 6 CD's now and so far "Tooth And Nail" is my favorite but I haven't played them enough to make a definite pick of the litter yet.

The original band recorded three more albums, "Under Lock & Key", "Back For The Attack", and a live album "Beast From The East", and that spelled the end for the original line-up. According to various sources the tension between Don and George reached the breaking point so they went their separate ways. Lynch is the expert in that realm so I leave that for him to talk about.

The original line-up.

Don Dokken - Vocals
George Lynch - Lead Guitar
Jeff Pilson - Bass Guitar
Mick Brown - Drums & Percussion

Breaking the Chains, from their first album.

Yeah, he's been touring with Foreigner for a few years now.

Also, a lot of people seem to think he was with the band since the beginning but the original bassist in Dokken was Juan Crocier. At one point (supposedly) he was playing with both Dokken and Ratt at the same time, after which he finally left Dokken to play fulltime with Ratt.

Yeah I knew Pilson was not on the first Dokken album, but I didn't know who was the bassist before Pilson joined.

Thanks Lynch.

Alright...where's Pat? Hello Pat!!

Anyway looks great!! DOKKEN was one of the few metal bands out of L.A. with (to my ears anyway) European influence!! They're still really good IMO. Pat will have a few fun stories!!

DOKKEN: 'Greatest Hits 2' Track Listing Revealed - Mar. 10, 2010
According to CDJapan.co.jp, DOKKEN's new greatest-hits package, "Greatest Hits 2" — a collection of all-new versions of tracks such as "Dream Warriors", "Breaking the Chains" and "Just Got Lucky", paired two new songs and two covers (including a version of "Lies", originally recorded by THE KNICKERBOCKERS) — will be released in Japan on April 21 via King Records. The CD will be made available in the U.S. on Cleopatra's Deadline Records imprint.

One of the two new songs from "Greatest Hits 2", a track entitled "Almost Over", has been made available for purchase via iTunes and Amazon.com. An audio sample of the track can be streamed at this location.

"Greatest Hits 2" track listing:

01. Just Got Lucky
02. Breaking The Chains
03. Into The Fire
04. The Hunter
05. In My Dreams
06. It's Not Love
07. Alone Again
08. Dream Warrior
09. Unchain The Night
10. Tooth And Nail
11. Almost Over (new song)
12. Magic Man (new song)
13. Bus Stop (the HOLLIES cover)
14. Lies (THE KNICKERBOCKERS cover)

DOKKEN has sold well over 10 million albums worldwide and continues to tour and enjoy media exposure courtesy of the successful web commercials for Norton Internet Security 2010, the latest virus, spyware and Internet protection software from Symantec. The comedic spots imagine a computer as a chicken and DOKKEN as a malicious computer virus. Each ad features a different outcome, based on whether or not the "Dokken Virus" was allowed into the system.

DOKKEN's latest album "Lightning Strikes Again", was released on May 13, 2008 via Rhino Records. The CD is DOKKEN's tenth studio album and it "mark[ed] a true and definite return" to the band's classic sound, according to a press release.

In addition to the regular European version of "Lightning Strikes Again", Frontiers Records released a special limited edition of the CD on April 11, 2008 in a glossy slipcase. The limited-edition version included an exclusive bonus track for Europe, entitled "Sunset Superstar".

Dokken. Rhymes with "rockin". I think the band first began in the late 70's under the name The Boyz when George Lynch and Eddie Van Halen were the top attractions on the Sunset Strip. But that was a long time ago so perhaps my timeline is a bit off after all these years.

At any rate, any Dokken thread should start out with, "it all started when Don Dokken first stole George Lynch's song "Paris Is Burning", and thus the fued between the two was on.

But they're my second favorite 80's group right after Ratt and Motley. Ok, third favorite. Lots of great songs such as "Breaking the Chains", "Into the Fire", "Alone Again", "The Hunter", "Heaven Sent", and "Sleepless Night" to name but a scant few. Certainly there are plenty of awesome songs to make a kick-ass 80 minute best of cd.

Dokken also made some great music in the 90's (with and without Lynch), most notably "Long Way Home" from 1995's Dysfunctional cd. This live version is pretty close to its studio counterpart, but the studio version has a much deeper bottom end and rocks even harder!

I don't know what to say yet. I am still giggling like a schoolgirl. lol.

I love Dokken by far next to Queensryche my all time favorite band. And Last year when Dokken and Queensryche played the House of Blues in Chicago I think I almost shit myself. As you can imagine I was front row for that show. and have some great pics also I will post later. I own every thing Dokken has come out with, but don't ask me what my favorite is I couldn't say its to hard. lol

I got to finally meet them back in 96 when they were on the Dysfunctional tour. and have meet them after every show since. I miss Lynch in the band but I have become friends with Jon Levin who is the current guitar player. I have some cool stories I can share later.

Pat: that's awesome. Dokken and Kiss are my top 2 bands, switching back and forth depending on mood. Obviously with my name here on the forums, George is my fave in the band and he's also my favorite guitar player ever.

Getting to see both Dokken AND QR at the same show? Damn, I"m envious to say the least. Front row? Even cooler!
