Default Looking for a song with Roxanne in the lyrics.

But not by Sting/Police.

My wife was born in the 70s and her mother always told her she heard the name Roxanne in a song, not the Sting song, but she couldn't remember which one. She said she thought the lyrics "one day you're up, next day you're down" was in the song but lyric searches on that don't have Roxanne anywhere in the lyrics so it might have possibly been a different song.

My wife had pretty much given up on finding the song until the other day when her co-worker mentioned he heard the name in a nice song recently. He often listens to 70s and described it as a nice, easy listening song.

Not saying any of this information is completely accurate but it's all we really have to go on. My wife loves 60s and 70s music and has never heard it so I figured I'd ask the experts here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Could it be TOTOs Rosanna?

It's early 80s, I don't recall "one day you're up, next day you're down" in it though, Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi uses that line in "That's Love".

"One day you're up, the next day you're down" appears in:

The Blues Magoos - We Ain't Got Nothing Yet
Jim Capaldi - That's Love
Styx - Golden Lark/Song For Suzanne
Santana - Spirit
Bad Company - Crazy Circles
Girlschool - Demolition

No sign of any song with those lyrics + Roxanne, or even a song with "Roxanne" in it aside from the Police/George Michael song or the UTFO song.

Yea, same problem we've been having. And a lyric search of Roxanne seems to yield thousands of Sting results which is kind of frustrating.

And even if you -Sting and -Police, you get massive hits for the George Michael version

Any chance it's the Styx song? At least it has the lyrics plus a name (Suzanne) that sounds like Roxanne.

Thought the Styx song isn't anything like easy listening, it's vintage early Styx.

It's a good song but I'm not sure. Pregnant in the 70s, she probably heard Jim Capaldi, then Styx then Sting and thought it was all one song. Lol

But thanks for the replies. I just wasn't sure if maybe the more avid listeners might recognize it.

I've given up convincing some guy at work that "The Cats in the Cradle" is Harry Chapin -- did Cat Stevens ever sing it? I found two You Tubes saying that, but it's Harry Chapin! The 2nd video was so wrong because it's got pictures of Cat Stevens in it. Idiots!!

The Jim Capaldi song is from 1983, so it's not that one.
