I was going in sequence Vic, Velvie, I will do Rock Island next and get to the last album by next week most likely. One of the few threads that has managed to stay in order, and I love all the interesting bits and pieces everyone has added along the way.
Crest of a Knave is next,,,insert Homer Simpson here.."D'Ohh!"
Don´t think, there will be a new Tull album..............
The Xmas album is just Tull being recycled
Ian has lost his muse !
Yeah I'm not sure where Jethro's headed anymore. It seems like the band is dying a long, slow death. I heard a few years ago that Andy Giddings (keys)and Jonathan Noyce (bass) were dismissed by Ian or both left for whatever reasons. I know Ian's done a lot of solo tours and acoustic/orchestral type shows in recent years. I guess Ian doesn't want to stop playing live, and he knows that Jethro is his alter ego. Whatever, maybe they'll surprise us one of these years with something new.

Re: Jethro Tull
Two Chrysalis trade announcements from the Crest of a Knave era.
The first says:
On the 7th September IAN ANDERSON and JETHRO TULL release
their twenty-first album for Chrysalis Records and embark
on a world tour on the 4th October, kicking off in Edinburgh.
The new album titled "ON THE CREST OF A KNAVE"(CDL 1590) was
completely written and produced by ANDERSON, and a single from
the album will be released early October.
The nucleus of the band, besides, of course, IAN ANDERSON,
are guitarist MARTIN BARRE and bassist DAVE PEGG, who are
heavily featured ou all tracks, and who will of course play
the world tour. The drums on the album are shared between
GERRY CONWAY and DOANE PERRY, both of whom have worked with
TULL before. Doane will do the tour, and keyboards for
the dates will feature old friend of the band DON AIREY.
It is three years since the last album, and TULL are back
with a vengeance. "ON THE CREST OF A KNAVE" is one of
their finest masterpieces to date!
The second one:
TULL'S STEEL MONKEY
The legendary JETHRO TULL release their new single
titled "STEEL MONKEY" on the 5th October. The
single is taken from the new album "ON THE CREST OF A KNAVE"-
the band's 21st album to date.
"STEEL MONKEY" was written and produced by IAN ANDERSON, as
was the "B" side "DOWN AT THE END OF YOUR ROAD". The
single is released in both 7" and 12" formats.
TULL hit the road next month with a U.K. and European tour,
commencing on the 4th October in Edinburgh and ending
at Hammersmith Odeon on the 29th.
^^^ I went to see them on the "Crest Of A Knave" tour and remember coal being shovelled into the steam keyboard rig (Raising Steam) and at the very beginning Ian Anderson was sat among the audience. We were just behind but didn't notice him 'til he took out the flute and started to play, then he strolled onto the stage cool as you like.
I'm on a full blown Tull kick at the moment. Today I walked into a bricks-n-mortar store and bought 2 Jethro Tull CDs I've been wanting to buy for years:
This Was
Broadsword And The Beast
I've heard most of "This Was" and man I'm loving it. My Sunday Feeling, Serenade For A Cuckoo, Dharma For One. It just kicks ass! LOVE IT!!
Thanks Jeffrey I had completely forgot the order and Crest of a Knave was next, then Rock Island.
Crest of a Knave released in 1987, definitely a big step up from "Under Wraps", at least I think so. It is absolutely mind boggling that this album of all of Tull's extensive high caliber discography won them a Grammy award for best Hard Rock/Metal album. I have no idea what those flunkies use for brains, about the only consolation I can think of is this band was deserving of some kind of recognition, so apparently "Crest of a Knave" was the album that finally got the band an award. Jeffrey has posted the "Flute is a Heavy Metal instrument", which always makes me smile.
^^ Fantastic album IMO there's no end to the directions they take their music. Ian Anderson thought it highly amusing that they took that award, they were up against Metallica if memory serves and they didn't even turn out for the awards cos they thought there wasn't a hope in hell. The Heavy Metal tag is unreal.
You are right on both counts Sox they are diverse and the Heavy Metal tag is hilarious, I wonder what James and Lars thought that fateful night, bet we couldn't print it in here.
^^Thanks Jeffrey, you are "Spot On" as usual. That is too funny having all those t-shirts printed and then not win the award.
I don't have anything against Metallica, I like them too but in this case I feel it is poetic justice Tull won, even if they are Not a metal band.(All Flutes notwithstanding of course.)
Tull are still one of the greatest bands, they have stood the teat of time and he can still stand on one leg and play that there flute. I will continue to purchase the remasters to obtain the extra tracks, I believe they are re-releasing one of their early albums with a live concert included soon.
