Here is another candidate for first rock n roll song:

That's All Right (1946)

Which was made famous when Elvis Presley covered it in 1954. This was Elvis' first commercially released single

rocket 88 is "officially" the first rock and roll song, unofficially it would be fats domino's first single, the fat man, from 49, only it was called rhythm and blues back then, they did not make a distinction. and alan freed (if it was him) only coined the term rock and roll later.

At least in theory, probably a good number of late-'40's-early '50's R&B could be considered the first or perhaps it was some sort of collective effort, with the first few being released close together enough to give more than one song the big honor here.Don't forget, the roots of the heart, soul, and spirit of rock can be traced back quite convincingly to '30's and '40's Delta and St. Louis blues...........

Wow, long dormant thread, if we have to classify fats Dominos music as R&B then we can't really narrow down the "first" rock n roll song. All music contributes to the next song. Having said that, Louis Jordans "Jump Jive" was in my opinion the beginning of what would later be called Rock and roll. Love it!

It's more pop than rock but it's the first song with rock elements (1941).
