How about the UK band The Fourmost

This single was written by John Lennon & Paul McCartney

From the States - Left Banke who I'm sure have been covered extensively but here are scans of their first 2 releases in the UK

And The Misunderstood - their first 2 singles in the UK

And I almost never hear anybody talk about the small faces.. Almost no one of my age has ever heard about them.

Exactly. Don't know if mentioned, but The Third Bardo is definately a rarity.

Yes, definitely the Spoonful. They had a unique sound that originated with jug band music, but they could be heavy, too. Witness Summer in the Citywritten by John Sebastian's brother, Mark as a poem while a college student. The Lovin Spoonful disintegrated when Zal Yanovsky agreed to rat out others to avoid getting prosecuted for possesion of marijuana.

Sebastian also played harmonica on the CSNY classic, Country Girl. Surprisingly, Sebastian played frequently with the Doors and is featured once again on harmonica on Roadhouse Blues.

Lennon, Hendrix, Morrison and Joplin...all dead.
Did the counterculture die or was it murdered?

The Lovin' Spooful certainly aren't forgotten on this board. A whopping three threads are devoted to the Lovin' Spoonful here:
