Boy, and I was about to give her credit for posting a whole bunch of bands I didn't know.

pretty much everything else from the Brit Invasion does very little for me. I mean, I like specific songs by some bands, but there wasn't another band that I'd listen to a full album of other than the two listed above, and yes that includes The Who. As far as I'm concerned, the Who were pretty much crap until the 70's where they finally figured out how to put out GOOD rock music. before that... bleh.

No one has mentioned the Sex Pistols but they are fantastic too!

Oops sorry I'm in the 60s thread

1. I completely disagree. I really like the music of the British Invasion bands.

2. As for the Who I think they turned into crap in the early seventies. I really don't like much of what they did after "Who's Next". In fact, here's a list of the singles that the Who had charting over the years with the ones I turn up when they're played on the radio highlighted:

1965 "I Can't Explain"

1965 "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere"

1965 "My Generation"

1966 "Substitute"

1966 "A Legal Matter"

1966 "The Kids Are Alright"

1966 "I'm a Boy"

1966 "Happy Jack"

1967 "Pictures of Lily"

1967 "The Last Time"

1967 "I Can See for Miles"

1968 "Call Me Lightning"

1968 "Dogs"

1968 "Magic Bus"

1969 "Pinball Wizard"

1969 "I'm Free"

1970 "The Seeker"

1970 "Summertime Blues"

1970 "See Me, Feel Me"

1971 "Won't Get Fooled Again"

1971 "Let's See Action"

1971 "Behind Blue Eyes"

1972 "Join Together"

1972 "Relay"

1973 "5:15"

1973 "Love Reign O'er Me"

1974 "The Real Me"

1975 "Squeeze Box"

1976 "Substitute"

1978 "Who Are You"

1979 "Long Live Rock"

1979 "5:15"

1981 "You Better You Bet"

1981 "Don't Let Go the Coat"

1982 "Athena"

1982 "Eminence Front"

In addition, I could add virtually the entire "Tommy" album from 1969 and the entire "Who's Next" album from 1971. The Who releases that I really enjoy are therefore clearly concentrated before 1972.

Right now I'll say The Beatles and The Who, with The Who edging out a bit for me.

I find it hard to comment on the British invasion as, being British, I was never too sure which bands made it over there at that time!

Of the songs you listed, I'll show the ones that I would turn up. The rest, either the volume goes down or the station gets changed.

1982 "Eminence Front"
I would also add in

Bargain and Baba O'Reilly. everything listed above from '65 to '69 is "meh" to me. If I never heard any of those songs again, it wouldn't bother me at all. But as I said in my original post in this thread, aside from the Beatles and the Stones, the songs and bands recognized as being part of the "british invasion" do very little for me. A few singles here and there from various bands, but not a fan of hardly any of those bands.

Those two I also really like but after "Who's Next" I thought the output of the Who steadily declined. The band settled into a formulaic hard rocking groove that lacked the joyful exuberance that their earlier work exuded.
