"The Decline Of Western Civiization Pt. II" rockumentary does a very good job summerizing the world of 80's Metal from established stars like Ozzy, Lemmy and Alice Cooper to all the up and coming bands trying to leave their mark in the clubs of the Sunset Strip.

Some of my favorites are:

Festival Express (just watched this Friday night, see my mini-review in the other music dvd thread)
The End of the Century - the story of the Ramones
Gimme Shelter
Gram Parsons - Fallen Angel
Standing in the Shadows of Motown
Don't Look Back - Bob Dylan
Beatles Anthology
The History of Rock 'n' Roll (1995 mini series, originally aired on PBS)

and all the 'Classic Album' dvds I've seen are excellent. I've got the ones on Who's Next (Who), Disraeli Gears (Cream), Electric Ladyland (Hendrix), & Ace of Spades (Motorhead).

There was a Beatles documentary called The Complete Beatles. It's probably close to 25 years old. It was on video at the tiime, don't know if it has come to DVD, but it was really good, and is recomended viewing if you like the Beatles.

A good one on right now......Hail Hail Rock and Roll. Follows the making of a Chuck Berry tribute show, headed by Keith Richards. Good music, but unfortunately, Berry come off as an enormous prick.

Of course, I have to mention The Kids Are Alright and Dazed and Confused, didn't one of your local all-nighter theaters always run one of these movies in the dead of night, as well as Rocky Horror Halloween week????

I also have a copy of an old Rolling Stone 25 years of Rock and Roll hosted by Dennis Hopper that I really enjoy.

Mine would have to be : 1)Woodstock, obviously for the awesome music, but also for showing how nearly 500,000 people can live in peace and unity, and with so much optimism. 2)It Was Twenty Years Ago Today, This documentary was shown on TV appx' 30 years ago and documents the making of Sgt Pepper and the spirit and times of 1967, simply a great time in music history. 3) A Skin Too Few, A very open and touching documentary about the great Nick Drake, still brightening up our Northern Sky.

My favourite is the Classic album documentaries.
They do educate me plenty about music and how they produce their albums.

My favourites of those dvds.

Other documentaries I like.
Some Kind of Monster definitely.
Making of Metallicas Black album.
Watched on Youtube the making of Death Magnetic.
