The new song is called Freak and it got stuck in my head after one solitary listen. It's got a great distorted intro and has a great upbeat flow that carries you through the whole song. It even makes up for the preachiness of the lyrics. This may be my favorite out of the five. Billy writes the best pop songs when he wants to! If this made it onto Zwan it would've made a great fit and addition!
Freak
It wasn't our sweet mother earth
We destroyed our sacred bodies, to fill our mouths of junk yeah
They call this knowledge but knowing nothing, means knowing far, far too much
They let our children starve in the name of peace
They march to the beat of a killing machine
Life is not a dream where you can't wake up from the dream you want yeah (x2)
Oh, they'll pull the salt from your soul(x2)
La la la la la la la... La la la la la la la la la (x2)
To the sky's above and fifty-one stars
In faith and milk and I'm drinking filth and disease
Oh pretty please, I'm begging freedom
There's lives to be blinded, so if it's unkind yeah
We've already paid, then we'll pay some more
Do you know the score? Cos I'm so ****ing bored!
Life is not a dream where you can't wake up from the dream you want yeah (x2)
Oh, they'll pull the salt from your soul(x2)
They'll say the world is evidence of your home
La la la la la la la... La la la la la la la la la (x2)
Life is not a dream where you can't wake up from the dream (you want yeah) (x4)
La la la la la la la... La la la la la la la la la (x4)
It's my favorite time! New Pumpkin song time! The new song is a chill love ballad that was actually first performed by Billy at someone's wedding! It's a pleasant addition to the roster of overall great songs in this project. It's cool to see Billy writing music that is overall positive musically and lyrically!
Spangled
Studio Version
How I love you
Isn't fair
God must want me
Next to you there
And if I show up
To disappear
Will you find me
Half as near?
Tangled in your body
Spangled by the night time stars
Of all the lovers
To be a friend
I'll come back when
You know me
And it's a sad state
Of happiness
If I confess
To my loneliness
Tangled in your body
Spangled by the night time stars
Tangled in your body
Spangled by the night time stars
How I've loved you so
It's how I've loved you so
Butterflies don't fly
Broken hearts don't cry, no no
How I've loved your body, baby
How I've loved your sapphires and rubies
Butterflies don't make it in movies
How I've loved you so
God I love you so
God I love you so
Live Version
(I like this version better, seems to have more ummpphh and emotion behond it than the studio one)
Well I'm a little behind on this thread but that only means I get to add two new songs by The Pumpkins!!!!!
The new song is a bright pop song called Tom Tom! I love a lot of this uplifting material from Billy and I'm so glad he's not writing angsty just to be angsty. He seems like he's truly in a good spot in life and it's reflected in his music. Maybe being free from the record companies and everyone's expectation has done that. This song is simple at heart but has an overall full sound to it that's pleasing to the ears. I like the acoustic breaks and electronic touches and how it builds in sound!
I think the current lineup is doing great!!!!
Tom Tom
Farther downtown along the range
Where the wise ones kept at bay
Those that wished secrets stayed as secrets
For morning minds
I tell myself it's where I belong
Among the waves and the once now gone
With my ancestors drums
Here comes the morning man
He's gonna tell you where you stand
Gonna try to undertake what's falling
He's calling you
Here comes the morning man
He's here and yes he can
Penetrate the veils that you're holding
He's unfolding you
This side of the solstice bare
Where autumn shows its truthful air
Is when I'm vowed to empty scare my precious stars
Of evening prayers
I remind myself it's who you are
An orphan soul from a distant star
Listening for those bells
Here comes the morning man
He's here and yes he can
Penetrate the veils that you're holding
He's unfolding you
Here comes the morning man
He's gonna tell you where you stand
Gonna try to undertake what's falling
He's calling you
You and I shine bright
I don't need anyone but you
Our lives to me are art
Until a morning tears apart
And leaves what's on my mind
Here comes the morning man
Here comes the morning man
Here comes the morning man
He's watching, he's watching
Sha-la-la-la-la
Here comes the morning man
He's watching
Sha-la-la-la-la
Here comes the morning man
He's watching, he's watching
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Here comes the morning man
He's watching, he's watching
Sha-la-la-la
The next song may just be my favorite release from the project so far. It's has a strong pulsing electronic sound and grabs you right out of the gate. I LOVE the moment at 2:38! Such a trippy alternative rave party going on! I'll be cranking this track a lot!
The Fellowship
Get on board,
This train ain't gonna stop
Where I'm going? I don't know
You know, you know, you know
Wheels on fire
Wings of nascent desire
Punch your ticket, it's time to go
There's a force up around the bend,
That drives this engine heart
Are you with us or against us?
Are you with us or against us tonight?
It's alright
There's a matter of reckon in this fight
It's alright
Are you with us tonight?
It's alright
it's alright
it's alright
Are you with us tonight?
Soon we'll fly
But on this eve we ride
A steel horse, tied to dirt
The words, the words, the words
No words will suffice
Against the sacrifice
For what is love, if not cause
By misdeeds we'll scurry home,
Dust in breath and bone
Are you with us or against us?
Are you with us or against us?
Are you with us? Are you with us?
Are you with us or against us tonight?
It's a matter of 'us' or 'them' this fight
It's alright
Are you with us tonight?
It's alright
it's alright
it's alright
Are you with us are you with us?
Are you with us or against us tonight?
Are you with us or against us?
Are you with us or against us tonight?
Can't believe I forgot about this thread Soot! I'm a complete pudding head!
Hmm, further to your question of Stitch in Time & some people remarking that it has a Fleetwood Mac feel - I'm no expert on them but I have owned a few of their albums and it doesn't remind me of them at all. It does remind me of somebody though, but I can't think who (it's gonna bug me!). Anyhoo I really like it!
The other song standing out for me is The Fellowship - I wasn't too sure about it when it started with that in-your-face techno sound, but it soon kicked into something that appealed and grabbed me & loving the super catchy chorus! Actually it reminds me very much of Muse's 'Bliss' YouTube - Muse - Bliss
In future I'll be stopping by this thread as you update it
I'm very unfamiliar with the Smashing Pumpkins as of late. But i'm willing to give them another go. I had listened to them a lot a couple years back, but I never really gave them much chance. I do however LOVE Zeitgeist. I had given that album a few listens on multiple occasions. I'll look into getting a couple more albums by them.
