Well you really can't count Randy's two albums with Quiet Riot. I mean, they both were released on a Japanese label and were never released outside of Japan. Even after Randy became a famous they still weren't really released anywhere else.
What's more Randy wasn't ever even satisfied with his guitar sound while in Quiet Riot because he didn't have any money with which to get the sort of equipment and parts he wanted to achieve the tone he had with Ozzy. As a Quiet Riot fan and a huge Randy Rhoads fan I don't even count "Quiet Riot" and "Quiet Riot II" as his playing or even acknowledge them in the band's discography. As far as I'm concern the only Quiet Riot album that Randy played on that matters is "The Randy Rhoads Years". |

The reasons for picking Van Halen over Rhoads are pretty weak. Just because SOME people did not hear of Rhoads before Ozzy does not make him any less of a great guitarist or any worse then Van Halen.
You compare their famous works and Rhoads is just as good as Van Halen.
Obviously he was great since Ozzy brought him along to play for him.
That says something right there. Van Halen was so out there at the time with his playing that is why he was recognized right away. When Rhoads went with Ozzy his playing became legendary. That is all that matters.
Both great, but I think Rhoads was better and he appeals to me more. |

| Re: Randy Rhoads VS Eddie Van Halen Randy Rhoads but only by slight margin and because I am annoyed with Edward over the last few years. He is an awesome player and USED to be trendsetter /genius ..but now is far too lazy imo..
Yes Randy died young and his future was robbed but I feel he would have progressed into a even better player and wound up in the ranks of legends like May/Clapton/etc..players who aged but never gave up their fire or style

That would be a contradiction to me Mud.
I picked Eddie for the simple reason I like more of his work, and he did alot more recordings than Randy. If Randy did not die so young and tragically then it might be different.
It is all subjective, my reasons for liking Eddie are as valid as yours are for picking Randy. |

I was talk more along the lines of some one picking Van Halen because of the first few albums of his being more well known then Rhoads' first few. |

| Re: Randy Rhoads VS Eddie Van Halen I would have to go with Randy Rhoads but only by a hair. I saw Rhoads on the Blizzard of Oz tour and Eddie Van Halen on the Fair Warning tour. Randy, I thought was a little more tighter than Eddie. That being said, I'm not a guitarist and with that I basically don't know what I'm talking about. |
