Default We Grow Up

We Grow Up is a indie-rock band from Adelaide, Australia, and I have Salmacis to thank for bringing them to my attention. I fell in love with the tunes I heard from their website and I decided to dedicade this week to achieve their albums for my collection. I send them a message and they told me to send me their albums as soon as possible.

In 2008 the band, led by songwriters Jonathan Mortimer and Anthony Golding, built on the promise of their raw, Triple J Unearthed winning debut album with 'Night Kitchen', an eclectic second album that mixed pristine melodies, rich instrumentation and darker lyrical themes with a broad scope that defied its humble home recording.

The album, released locally and then re-released nationally on Half A Cow Records, met with acclaim natiowide, with publications as varied as the Sydney Morning Herald, Time Off Magazine and Adelaide’s Rip It Up and dB Magazines singing its praises. It also earned more airplay around the country, with tracks like Celia and Office Christmas Party heard on Triple J’s Home & Hosed throughout 2008.

Their third album ‘Kids In Love’ - to be released in mid to late 2010 - continues the band’s knack for lush pop whilst showcasing an even greater level of finesse and cohesion, reaffirming the pedigree that has seen them play alongside Missy Higgins, The New Pornographers, The Seabellies, Institute Polaire, Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers and Sydney legends Sneeze.

I want to introduce you guys to this band. It's one of those bands that you fall in love with or leave it behind you. Just like Fever Ray.

Well,

Here are some of their songs:

Celia

Something Peculiar

Wrote It All In My Diary

Social Moth

We Grow Up have a new album coming out late this year, and here is the leading single "Goodness Gracious!":

Also, I can't believe this is my first post here o.o I'd like to say that the more I listen to this band, the more I'm understanding how great the songwriting really is. Especially lyrically, as a whole their songs are outstanding!

As publicized in the member's picture thread, here is me with We Grow Up:

I have seen them live twice now, once last week at the Gov where that picture was taken and again last night at the much smaller (but louder) Grace Emily pub for the new single launch. Their live show is astoundingly better than their studio tracks and these songs from their setlists are unbelievably better live IMO:

Mutual Friends
Office Christmas Party
Wrote It All Down In My Diary
The Flowers
Social Moth
Fingernails

On the night at the Gov, while chatting to Jon I mentioned that Fingernails was in fact my favourite song by them, and they didn't play it that night. But true enough at last night's show, they put it on the setlist and it was unreal! For that, and the kickass performance they give, my appreciation for them has skyrocketed and they're now among my top bands, and are currently my favourite band from my hometown of Adelaide.

So without further ado, here is Fingernails:

Hey EZ, great job on this thread and great find in general! Can't believe I hadn't commented in here yet but We Grow Up is currently and deservedly so the recent Musical Thirst Spotlight band with Celia and this thread is linked!

Looks like these guys are not only talented, being able to play a wide variety of instruments and make them work for some intriguing storytelling but it sounds like they are very nice guys from your experience Sal! Props to this cool new band!

They are very nice guys and girl (They've recently recruited Zoe Behan on drums) and I'm really looking forward to their new album

Ever since "The Flowers" was posted in Musical Thirst I've been trying to track down their music but it's not been easy. They're a well kept musical secret it seems.

Indeed, they're tucked away in the dark and mysterious depths of Goodwood

They don't ship their albums outside Australia, however if you're interested I can send you a download of them?

I'll PM you CH! And if anyone else from outside Australia wants them too just let me know

Ez, I have word about that...apparently they're 95% finished but the final details are bering annoying and taking longer than expected, so we should see a release in roughly another 2 - 3 months
