Here's one I really like from an old dinosaur...

It's nice to know a band that started in 1977 can still surprise me with a CD like this one.

Matt and Kim-Daylight
(It is impossible to not feel positive energy from this c.d.)

Katie Trotta-Demo Sessions
(beautiful piano pop from an artist who's learning to grow)

J.R. Richards-Far End of the Black
(lead singer of Dishwalla is great at creating beautiful pop textures in his music)

Hurt-Goodbye To The Machine
(Hurt hasn't made a bad c.d. yet!)

Meg and Dia-Here, Here and Here
(great pop duo)

Boys Like Girls-Love Drunk
(not as great as the first but still solid!)

Howie Day-Sound The Alarm
(so much better than his last)

A Fine Frenzy-Bomb In A Birdcage
(love Alison Sudol)

The Used-Artwork
(The Used is a guaranteed best of any year they come out for me)

Mika-The Boy Who Knew Too Much
(On par with his first)

Kid Cudi-Man on the Moon: End of the Day

Brand New-Daisy
(Their prior work had me very biased but this change in sound sunk in and I love it)

Monty Are I-Break Through The Silence
(A great but slightly too polished followup to their debut)

Pearl Jam-Backspacer
(Not their best but better than the criticism it gets)

Marilyn Manson-The High End of Low
(best since Mechanical Animals IMO)

Breaking Benjamin-Dear Agony
(way better than their last and a darker mood)

Eminem-Relapse
(Honestly Eminems best c.d. IMO)

Regina Spektor-Far
(some of best lyrics yet)

Tori Amos-Abnormally Attracted to Sin
(Still going strong and making beautiful creative music)

Ace Enders and a Million Different People-When I Hit The Ground
(great solo pop from Early November lead singer)

And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead-Century of Self
(I love their stuff from Worlds Apart so much more than their older material)

Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella!
(unique and beautiful take on a great artists catalog)

Black Eyed Peas-The E.N.D.
(best yet and my favorite songs at the dance clubs)

Emerson Hart-Cigarettes & Gasoline
(lead singer of Tonics solo material is awesome)

Blue October-Approaching Normal
(My pick for c.d. of the year, every track is gold)

Taking Back Sunday-New Again
(weakest lineup yet still makes for a catchy c.d.)

The Higher-It's Only Natural
(unique pop rock group)

Straylight Run-About Time
(Excellent Digital E.P.)

plus David Ford had three excellent digital EPs this year!

I see someone has been busy, I'll just post mine one at a time.

Primal Fear, although it doesn't seem like many people know or care about them outside of Europe, South America, and Japan, they released an excellent heavy metal album this year.

I have a thread for them in the Metal section, and am doing their CD's in chronological order, but this one deserves to be posted here as well.

If I posted an album cover for all my favourites this year, I'd run out of room and annoy the admins It's been a brilliant year.

I'll do a top 5 with covers, and type the rest:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Pearl Jam - Backspacer
Sonic Youth - The Eternal
Dinosaur Jr. - Farm
The Decemberists - Hazards Of Love
Depeche Mode - Sounds Of The Universe
Eels - Hombre Lobo
Muse - The Resistance
Porcupine Tree - The Incident
Foreigner - Don't Slow Down
Powderfinger - Golden Rule

And those are just the ones I can think of
