Since we are getting some threads with band news and concert information in the general rock lounge.......
what do you guys think about me adding a "band news and concert information" forum?
OR we could start merging them into the "official band threads".
I hate the fact these news and concert threads are getting lost in the general rock forum.
Let me know what you think or give me your ideas.........PLEASE  |

I'd prefer news straight up in the Rock Lounge but if that's not happening then a seperate band and concert news forum would work for me 
I'm having some difficulty figuring out what the Rock Lounge is for and it does seem to get very limited action.
Personally I rarely revisit the 'official' threads for news - seems odd to me, must admit. As I see it, it buries the news and it distracts from the work some people do on here with great 'biographical' type presentations. So it's bio, bio, bio, news, news discussion, bio, bio, news discussion..... nopes, doesn't work for me at all.

I think you and I talked about this once didn't we?.... 
My thoughts are that the band news and concert information gets lost in the general forum.....after a day or two it isn't seen anymore on the main forum page. If I make a separate forum for these threads, it is easy to check that forum for the latest news, etc.
The rock lounge is for general music discussions not really band specific stuff. For example: a good general topic is the album covers, favorite albums, frontman/axeman threads, cover songs, etc. Actually the general music forum gets quite a bit of activity. It is the largest forum on the boards.
I just know that having a separate "Band/Artist news and concert information" subforum has worked very well in another forum I admin'd and wanted to know how you guys would feel about having one. | |

Yeah, we did 
But those topics you mention often turns into lists and polls... which already have forums. I prefer a discussion based on recent news - a decent, proper discussion, mind you.
But yeah, let's have the seperate forum for news already - easy to tell where the wind is blowing, innit

Personally... I do NOT like the idea of merging new band news in with "official" threads, as they can get lost in them, especially if the thread is long (ie: the Kiss thread which has over 250 responses to it).
It's up to you if you want to make a News/Concert subforum. Nothing wrong with that.
Maybe you can actually combine these two ideas. Say, after 3 months or something, if there is an "official band x" thread, at that point move the "news" threads to those official threads, since they are old news by that time. the thread merge wouldn't have to be exactly at 3 months, just saying if an admin/supermod feels like doing some forum cleanup at some point when the site is quiet and they quit surfing midget porn for 5 minutes.
