| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread There's nothing quite like the humour when watching a match with the lads either on the cop or in the pub ... esp. when your team are playing like they are joined at the hip.

| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread Aggghhhh!!! England is full of fine bitters and ales and you resort to drinking American swill "brewed" to be as flavourless as possible in order to have as much mass market penetration as possible!

| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread Americans will never fully get into football the way we Europeans do. I think there's a simple explanation.
When you look at the sports that are popular in America I see that it's sports where there's a lot of scoring involved.
Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, Tennis, American Football...
In Football there are matches with only 1 goal or sometimes even none. I think that is the reason it's not popular overthere |

| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread That is one reason for sure Ezequiel, the lack of scoring is something most North Americans don't like too much.
I think the other reason it's popular in Europe and not here, are the traditions of all the old clubs, those teams have been playing for their cities for decades. Then you get all the inter-league play the Euro and the WC and before you know it Football is the number one sport in the world.
One other thing than fans don't like or understand is the "Random" offside rule, I have watched enough Premiership games to know even grizzled veteran broadcasters and retired players don't understand that damn rule. I think a major overhaul would be needed if Footy is ever going to make it big over here, but seein' FIFA moves slower than molasses in the winter I doubt anything major will be done in my lifetime. |

| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread This Saturday 2 of our best players will play in the Champions' League final.
Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben:
Until last summer they played for Real Madrid but they both left. Sneijder playing for Internazionale and Robben playing for Bayern Munchen.
The funny thing is that the Champions' League final is played in Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the stadium of Real Madrid, the club that sold them a year ago while they themselves didn't even make it past the 2nd round of the Champions' League.
3 weeks later they will start with Holland to try and bring the cup home! |

| Re: World Cup 2010 Official Thread No, he played for Chelsea. First with nr. 16 (which was previously used by former Ajax-player Jesper Gronkjaer) because Damien Duff had nr. 11. After Duff left, Robben got nr. 11 which was given to Didier Drogba after his departure to Real Madrid |
