| Re: Workout Thread Working out is something that you just got to find your rhythm with. I was never able to work out consistently in college. My life was just too erratic. You have to have some kind of emotional foundation too. If your spouse decided to work out with you then that would probably help alot. I intentionally keep my evenings open so I don't have all of these things to deal with that might short circuit my workout.
What makes a big difference to me is that I signed up for some 10k runs. So I have a goal to work towards. It feels like I have a purpose, and it helps on the days when I don't feel like running.

| Re: Workout Thread Well, my husband is EXACTLY like me. We're both pretty cerebral and not into physical endeavors like that. In other words he's lazy too.
I used to work out in college a lot more. But then I was younger and because of my erratic life-style I had no reason to want to sit at home. Being settled kind of does that to you. Makes you want to be home with your loved one instead of out and about. Well, it did to me any way.

| Re: Workout Thread The funny thing about Seattle is that there are alot of people between 40-60 that are just in incredible shape. Marathon runners, Triathalon, etc. It can be pretty humbling. It's a lifestyle out here, and so it kind of makes it easy for me to go with the flow.
I remember when I was climbing up Spider Pass in Eastern Washington a couple of years ago. There was a lady up there, she was 70 years old!
So age is no excuse, but nice try.

| Re: Workout Thread LOL It's not an excuse, just the facts. I'm lazy, I'm older and settled and so is my hubby. We just aren't exercise kind of people. I do get exercise running after grandkids and trust me, after the two heavy babies came along, I've developed muscles in my arms from lifting them and carrying them around.
I know I should do something but Yoga is about the only thing I can think of that interests me in any way enough to keep at it. Everything else tires me out just thinking of it. Heck, I need a nap now!!! LOL

| Re: Workout Thread I guess it comes down to whether you feel good about your body and your health. If so then you're good to go.

| Re: Workout Thread I was religeous about lifting weights in my 20's but it puts terrible stress on your bones after years. I ended up with a chronic shoulder injury (constantly pinching a nerve doing shrugs). I only lift light now. The gym is a place to build strength, not demonstrate it! I found that diet was just as important to staying in shape. Like any routine there is an ebb and flow to how dedicated you can be given lifes daily grind. Once your in pretty good shape it's easier to stay on top of it though. I used to make tapes, go to the gym for an hour and a half with the headphones on and get lost in my own little world. (I had no choice, all they played was top 40 radio).

| Re: Workout Thread This seems to be a dead thread around here, but I am an avid weight lifter.
I also do cardio and some martial arts, though not as religiously as I used to.
I still weight train four times a week , do cardio 3 times, and heavy bag / striking twice a week. I need to start doing grappling a couple time a week again as well. |

| Re: Workout Thread During winter, the closest I get to excersize is work, which does everything for my arms and nothing for my legs But just recently pre-season cricket training has started, although there's no actual running involved until September/October It's still doing me good to get back into it.

| Re: Workout Thread I love a good cardio myself, did a 30 km ride today and feel great. Come winter it's off to the gym. I have done hard physical labour most of my life and as a result I didn't work out too much at all. But in the winter the last ten years, I find it is a great cure for the winter blahs...and you meet great people there as well.
As for the mutant in Thumper's post... Must be Arnold's big brother. |

| Re: Workout Thread Ahhhhnuld!!! YyyYYeeEEaaaAAAaARRggGG!
I all around workout, mainly like a triathlete. Completed my first Sprint triathlon this year, was good fun. Right now my wife and I are training for the Chicago Half Marathon in September. She is a bit more into working out than me, and has a strong desire to complete an Ironman in a couple years. I may eventually do a half Ironman; it's just swimming in open water is one of my fears and makes me a bit nervous~ |
