Default Roger Clemens

I gather no person here can say they are so surprised by Roger Clemens` indictment. What I was surpised at most of all was the man`s pigheadedness in not owning up to steriod use and lying under oath to a federal grand jury. If he had come clean and had made an aplogy to boot when the allegations were made, there would have been a furor, sure, but it would have died down after a while. Of course, getting elected into the baseball Hall of Fame would have been dicey, but nowadays after lying under oath and denying everything , there is also the very real possibilty of serving jail time. But the man has only himself to blame for digging his grave that much deeper.
I suspected that Clemens was using steroids when he was still pitching for the Yankees. How can a man approaching his mid-40`s still be able to pitch and quite excetionally well at that when most athlethes are retired, or if they are not, are headed to the scrap heap?

You are right Stout, he should have just owned up and tell the truth. Andy Pettite admitted he used steroids, took his punishment and moved on, and they are good friends. I believe the trainer is right, and he would know who he was giving what to over the years, Clemens is all about damage control and his legacy and the truth be damned. I remember when Jose Canseco published his book everyone thought he was an idiot and just making things up, as things have progressed we see that he was not only right but the number of players cheating and damaging themselves was far greater than we ever suspected.

Reminds me of Marion Jones, she wouldn't admit to cheating even though her boyfriend/husband was using steroids for years, and then she finally admitted what everyone already knew. I don't really believe in much anymore as far as athletes go, it's all about the money and fame, honor is pretty much a forgotten attribute now.

Nobody has proven that he used performance enhancing drugs. I admit, there is somewhat of a convincing case, but he was not one of the ~100 MLB players to test positive for steroids in 2003.

If everyone around him was using the enhancements and the trainer admits giving it to him we are watching yet another "Plausible Deniability" show motivated to salvage his hall of fame credentials and reputation.(Of all the athletes that have pleaded innocent over the years how many have been proven to be telling the truth?...I honestly can't think of any of the top ones that have been cleared.)

I firmly believe he and Andy Pettite both used HGH and steroids, Andy manned up and put it behind him, Clemens being one of the most Arrogant athletes of his era has not got a gracious bone in his body and hardly any class. Great pitcher, no denying that his career before this issue arose would have got him in the HOF on the first ballot. Class and character....not mcuh that I can see.
