Most people wouldn't believe it but Derek Anderson was actually very well respected by the players inside of the Cleveland Browns locker room, despite having an awful season last year. The opinion was that it really wasn't his fault and he had nothing to work with.
I don't think much of Anderson but he is more of a fiery leader who takes command in the huddle, which is apparently everything that Leinart wasn't.
What I do know is that Leinart completely "lost" Larry Fitzgerald and some of the other guys in the Cardinals locker room when Fitzgerald invited Leinart to work out with him this off-season on some passing drills and Leinart declined the invite. Leinart wanted to stay closer to home and work out on his own. Fitzgerald wasn't happy about that and he is a pretty big player in the locker room.
Whisenhunt saw little things like this and now the guy (Leinart) has seemingly been cut as of 3 pm today. |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL ^^If that is true then someone will pick him up for sure. I didn't know about his refusal to work out with Fitzgerald, that is a bonehead move if you want to be the leader of the team you have to be involved when someone of his stature wants to work on things in the off season.
I still have no seen any indication that Anderson will get them to the playoffs, he is a decent QB and I have nothing against him but at this point in your career you should have established some kind of reputation if you want to be in the elite category of the league's best quarterbacks.
Brady, Manning, Brees, are my picks for the best QB's and character guys as well, other players could learn from their body of work on and off the field.(Even when Brady left his old girlfriend for his new one, he simply owned up and paid whatever child support his ex wanted.) Rothlisberger is not on my list, he is overrated and I always suspected he had a serious flaw, besides the superbowl they won against Seattle was the worst officiated one I have ever watched, two blown calls that affected the outcome of the game, in the Steelers favor. |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL I just read an article that said that Leinart was all Hollywood and liked to whine and complain a lot.
It's funny how Leinart's backup at USC-Matt Cassel is currently starting for Kansas City. Leinart never learned NFL isn't Hollywood - NFL - Yahoo! Sports |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL I thought Matt did a very good job replacing Brady when he got knocked out two years ago, but man the drop off from the Patriots to the Chefs(Chiefs,,, ) is Huge. He at least showed that when he has talent around him he can play.
I don't know much about Leinart, but he was part of that glory brigade from USC, that is now covered in infamy after Carroll moved to Seattle one step ahead of all the scandals surrounding his tenure there. |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL I was never a big fan of college football,,,and I don't bother watching any bowl games anymore. They used to mean something years ago but now there are too many of them with "Politics" involved as much as anything to do with on field performance selecting the teams that play in them.
College football is becoming so mercenary now it is just an outright feeder system for the pros, the latest scandal in a Carolina Uni team losing 17 players for academic cheating is just another example of the system being abused just because a guy can run and tackle, don't worry about grades or learning anything while you are in school, just win baby...
I know I am cynical and admit it, no offense to those fans who just enjoy the pageantry on Saturday cheering their schools on. |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL The A.F.L has reached the finals series (This weekend was the first week of them) and it won't be long before that fateful day in September. Fremantle and Sydney won the two elimination finals which means that thier respective opponents Hawthorn and Carlton are out of the race.

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL I saw that Matt Leinart was released by Arizona a couple of days ago, I guess that solves that problem once and for all. He will get picked up I am sure, if he hasn't been already. I used to be in a football pool with my buddies for years, but recently I just don't have a passion for it anymore otherwise I would keep up with all the player moves in the league these days. |

| re: Official Football Thread NFL & CFL Well, after the New York Jets pathetic 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in week one, it was nice to see Jets bounce back and beat the New England Patriots 28-14 today.
The Jets opened up the offence, unlike in week one.
QB Mark Sanchez thew 3 TD's
The Jets have a lot to prove this season, especially all the trash talking they did during the off season and through the preseason.
And no, I didn't watch one episode of the Jets Hard Knocks show.
I just watch the games. I'm a long time, die-hard Jets fan. |
