LOL! I get asked that quite often Spike! Here's kind of a breakdown-
Green Bay Packers - The Packers were the only team that my dad could pick up on TV in the early years of TV up here in Upper Michigan. He could pick them up on channel 2 out of Green Bay and our local radio station covered them. Green Bay is only about 120 miles from here. Plus we had season tickets until just recently. I guess you could say I was weened to like the Packers. I followed them through the "lean years" (which sadly- history seems to be repeating itself) through the Super Bowl and probably always will.
Detriot Pistons - I got into the Pistons during my college years. All of my dorm mates were into professional basketball. I watched it once in a while but never really paid much attention. When they went to the championship in the late 80s and early 90s I followed them closely. We went through some lean years recently with them too. Now I watch them much more frequently. I learned to stick with a team even when they suck. It's more satisfying than being a "fairweather fan"
Detroit Red Wings - I also got into the Wings during college. I was at NMU when the Wildcats had their stellar seasons in the early 90s. Being a student, I could see the games for free. I really got into hockey. The TV stations in Marquette showed Detroit Red Wings games so I started following them. I guess I started watching them by being so pumped during NMU's stellar seasons. Everything was hockey to me back then. I still catch a game once in a while at my mom's house- she gets Fox Detroit and they carry most of the games.
Chicago Cubs - My uncle from Chicago whom I still visit quite often has season tickets and is a die-hard Cubs fan. We get down to Wrigley a few times during the summer. I've been to games at Milwaukee's Miller Park- it's a grat place but there's just something about the mystique of Wrigley Field and the Cubs. My brother also lives down there. We have some great memories of games at Wrigley.
Michigan Wolverines - My dad watched them every Saturday. He was into them so I got into them.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. -I always loved NASCAR.I remember the first Daytona 500 shown on TV back in 1979. Richard Petty won.
Once again, dad was a huge fan of #3. When Sr. was killed we started to follow Jr.
And it's "yooper"
