| Bass Fishing Any bass fisherpeople out there? I am going up into the Pocono Mts. in a few weeks for largemouth bass. I'm sure there will be pickerel, yellow perch and sunnies galore. My wife and I will be there, on top of the mountains in nature's beautiful surroundings. She has a very good feel and is addicted to catching any fish just as I am. I am really in to using plastic worms and we have great success. It's going to be a great summer! Love to share your stories of angling.

| Re: Bass Fishing I love fishtanks and ponds. I haven't fished since i was a kid. I plan on fishing for some native fish for my aquariums, looking for some cool bluegills. The water around here is so polluted I don't want to expose my tanks though! |

| Re: Bass Fishing Ive done my fare share of coarse fishing here in the uk . The fish I have tended to catch are carp, tench, perch etc I havent been fishing for over a year now.there are some lovely scenic local ponds I must give it another go. I like to keep the fishing tackle and baits as simple as possible........sweetcorn,maggots,bread etc....it really annoys me to see guys fishing with boxes of baits and rods...grrrr
I also had a spell fly fishing some years ago....the trout is a lovely fish and puts up a great fight
yes....ive got some fishing stories to tell but mostly about............the one that got away |

| Re: Bass Fishing Just had to put this fishing article in...from todays newspaper
Folkestone u.k...... Angler Derek Plum fishing the murky water in Radnor park " i felt an almighty tug on my rod....next thing I knew it had dragged my line about 500 yards it was going all over the place. it took me 15 minutes to reel in.When it emerged it was thrashing about and going crazy...."
Derek was in for a surprise.....he had caught a flesh -ripping red bellied ....PIRANHA !!!!!!
Of course the fish hadnt swam all that way from the amazon lol!........just some evil twisted joker thought it would be fun dumping it in the pond

| Re: Bass Fishing They are not a fish to tangle with LG ....especially in your local pond..[!!?!]
Piranhas can strip flesh to the bones in seconds....hopefully this was a one off and no other Piranhas were introduced to the pond to mate.....or there will be problems for the angling society in little old Folkestone......what next alligators lol
People are getting some strange "pets"of late |

Living up here on the westcoast of Canada we've had smallmouth here since the early 1900's brought in by train from Ontario. The last 10 years or so someone brought in some largemouth by bucket from the mainland(I live on Vancouver Island) to a lake here in Victoria.
I've been chasing smallies since I was 10 years old. They don't get as big as they do down in Kentucky/Tennesse(TVA chain of lakes and reservoirs) but will reach eight pounds. My biggest is 6.1lbs. Our lakes are very small in proportion to yours down there.
I've always dreamed to fish for those big Florida strain largemouths with Roland Martin on Lake Okeechobee and the St. Johns River.

| Re: Bass Fishing I've never gone out specifically to catch bass. Typically catch smallies and large mouth by accident when fishing for walleyes, or sometimes while fishing for panfish (crappies and sunnies). Largemouth are fun to catch, but compared to smallies, they are ladybugs. I'd bet money that pound for pound, small mouth bass put up a better and more fun of a fight than nearly any other freshwater fish (not including fishing for salmon or lake trout in say, the Great Lakes).
Edit: Oh yeah, always seem to catch a lot of rock bass while fishing for sunnies.
Edit2: Another thing, even when nothing else is biting, we still catch our fair share of bottle bass. |

| Re: Bass Fishing ^^^Lynch, totally agree. Smallies are right up there, pound for pound as one of the best fighting gamefish with Steelhead and Coho salmon which I've caught numerous on the fly.
I hooked into a big hook nosed nothern Coho, I'd say around the 20+ range here on a west coast river estuary some 12 or 13 years ago. Holy sh#t, it peeled off about 150 yards into my backing. I had to lift anchor on my pontoon boat to kick after it. One of my best memories fishing on the fly. BTW, I did release him.

I lived in West Palm Beach for 30 years which is due east of the Big O. I fished there many times and have great memories from fishing there. I live in north central Florida now and the bass are bigger here. FWC shocked a bass over 20 pounds just west of my house in Lake Rousseau doing a creel survey. I live 20 minutes from the Rainbow River which is a six mile gin clear artisian spring fed river that is full of giant bass. They are hard to catch due to the clarity of the water. My largest bass is 11 pounds caught in a 100 acre public lake in WPB. I have caught numerous bass in the 5-8 pound range. Live shiners will catch the biggest but I am a soft plastic man myself. |
